Photo weird

Could you just take a look at this photo? it looks weird to me..try downloading this and save to your Pictures library..

view it in Large icons.. and compare it to Extra large icons..


the photo changes, can anyone tell me how it was done?

acts normal to me - it looks like your extra large at all view sizes.

I really don't know. You are correct, they are 2 very different images

You could try rebuilding the icon cache as these images can get corrupted the same as any other icon

Had a look on my desktop, and yes, 2 different images when viewed as a thumbnail, and then full sized. There are somehow both images embedded in the jpg file. A Guy

It is an .ico file which can, and usually do, have several different size images emebdded in one file. Based on what your view setting is will detemine which pic you see. Try it with several folders. Many pics are the came, but some are different.

Example, when I make an icon in Paint.NET and save as icon, I have a choice of about 12 sizes and and bit formats to save it in.

After scrutinizing your file, I found out that this is actually a .JFIF file-- it is ".. a format for exchanging JPEG encoded files compliant with the JPEG Interchange Format (JIF) standard."

What this means for practicality is that you can embed thumbnails.

After further scrutiny, I managed to extract the thumbnail and I posted it here for curiosity's sake.

For even more curiosity's sake, the thumbnail in this file's metadata starts at address 0x134 (Byte 308) and ends at 0x1C34 (byte 7220).

woaw that is a great.. does .JFIF files actually shows .JPG attributes instead of .JFIF?.. what tool did you use to scrutinized the photo?

A hex editor-- specifically XVI32.

JFIF files are images compressed in accordance with JPEG specs. For practicality, I guess JFIF is nothing more than a simple metadata identifier that is elusive to everyone except the technical
