Photos in my pictures not being removed when moved

I move photos from My Pictures to specific (topical) albums on my desktop. After I move them I find that they are now located in both the new desktop album and in My Pictures. They used to disappear from My Pictures when I moved them. This is hindering my work since I still have to scroll through hundreds of pictures to find which ones haven't been moved and I have to delete from both areas when I'm done with them now.

In order to ensure it would not show both My Pictures and Desktop.

Open the Explorer and under Libraries, in the Pictures; do selected pictures;
Either
do "Cut" and then "Paste" on the desktop (or folder).
Or
Drag the selected pictures to the desktop &or inside the folder on the desktop.

In this way, it will not show on both side
Tested.

I always drag the photos (have done it this way for years) and just in the last two weeks it keeps copies in both places.
