I just bought a Vista x64 PC with the free option to upgrad to Windows 7 at the end of October. I am planning to install Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.5 on Vista and then upgrade to Win7, since all the programs and files should be intact.
Is there a good reason to wait with install of CS4 and Lightroom until the upgrade to Windows7?

Thanks

I have read here and elsewhere that doing an inplace upgrade from Vista to Windows can take any where from several hours to an entire day, depending on the amount of programs you already have installed.. Having said that I would start to backup your data and do a clean install of W7, and reinstall your apps... that way you lessen the risk of bringing unwanted data blocks from Vista to W7..

I concur with Tews,

I tried upgrading my Vista HTPC (with very few apps).
After 2 hrs I decided to reboot and do a clean install.
20 minutes later I had W7 installed, and 1 hr later the apps that I had on Vista, but the newest versions instead.

Make sure you install the version you are going to buy, or you will have to do a clean install again.

To do that you have to delete ei.cfg from the original ISO and create a new ISO.

Good luck

Pay special attention to Photoshop though. You will need to UNACTIVATE it before you get rid of your old OS or uninstall it or do anything to make it impossible to run any more.

Before you transfer you do anything when you are transferring yourself from the old Vista to the clean Windows 7. Go to the Photoshop help menu and unactivate the software.

Adobe gives you two installs of Photoshop before you gotta argue with them in person. Meaning you are allowed to install it on your desktop and your laptop at the same time, but if your forget to unactivate it before moving it to another machine you will loose one activation. Do it twice and you can't activate it on line at all :(

But he is going to install it on the same machine.

Oops, not the same machine. :D

Sorry.

Since I haven't installed CS4 and LR yet, I'll wait for a Win7 install.
Does the Upgrade version of Win7 allow you to do a full clean install?

Many thanks to everyone for your help.
