Photoviewer won't play video or allow themes.

Hello,

I'd been running windows 7 64bit home premium for a while and photoviewer was playing videos fine and allowing me to change the theme. However my hard drive failed recently so I had to get a new one and install Windows 7 again. Now I only seem to have a very basic version of photoviewer - the slideshow will not play videos and it doesn't give me any options for changing the slideshow theme. The icon for showing image information in a panel on the right is missing as well.

Is there anyway to get the proper version of photoviewer? I tried the Windows Live 2011 version but the slideshow is terrible! There's no plain theme and the words 'Windows Live' are constantly smeared across the top of the screen! My Windows Experience number did not change when I added in the new hard drive.

Hi Waterwolf and welcome to the Forum.
I use Windows Photo Viewer sometimes and I cant see how it can play a video. Are you sure your previous Photo Viewer played videos? Or was it perhaps Windows Media Player that your were using!

Yes, photoviewer can definitely play video when in slideshow mode. I think this feature was introduced in Windows Vista. I can't figure out why it's not working now though...

Actually, I'm looking at this on Windows Vista now on another machine and it looks almost identical but has the missing features and is call Windows Photo Gallery rather than Windows Photoviewer. Is this a different programme? This is quite confusing!
