So, this is an interesting issue that I haven't seen before. I put a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 on my Laptop (HP dv7-6b57nr) about a month ago. Haven't installed many programs, just office and some utilities. The first time I tried to open a JPEG, windows photo viewer wouldn't open. It seems to start to launch but nothing happens. I installed IrfanView and that works to view images but I tried opening a video and it crashed.
I figured maybe the file type was the issue (.mov) so I downloaded a .wmv sample and it still crashed. I also tested WMP and VLC and both crashed with both files.
Ran sfc /scannow and it found some errors but when I try to open the log file it said access is denied...
Anybody have an idea what's going on? I assume these issues are related.
Just ran sfc in safe mode and it said that it fixed some files but the issue is still there.
