Hallo Rippsblack, if you navigate in your menu to Accessories & right click on Windows Explorer select Properties then Shortcut tab & select Change Icon pick the icon you want then click Apply & O.K. :D

Hope this is what you were after

Edit; I just re read your post if it is the my computer icon go into your Control Panel select Personalization, in the top L.H. corner click on change desktop icons click on the Computer icon & use the same process as stated above;

If these steps do not work then it might pay to look at this tutorial;

Sorry for any confusion

The My Computer Icon (the one on the desktop) is fine

it is the pinned representation of explorer and all explorer related icons on the taskbar that has the wrong icon

I will explain the process i went through to change the icon

Before opening any explorer windows, Right click on the Pinned Explorer Button on the taskbar, go up to Windows Explorer in the menu that has popped up, right click again and go to properties...

Then, changed the icon as normal to that off the my computer default icon.

When i got bored of this change, and wanted the original icon back... this same process no longer works...

During the writing of this post, i have figured that the actual short cut is located here

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

I seem to have made things worse by deleting this shortcut :p

Hello Rippsblack, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the icon is ok for the source C:\Windows\explorer.exe file, then you might see if unpinning the one you have on the taskbar and pinning the C:\Windows\explorer.exe file may display the correct icon afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

The icon for the source file is indeed okay.

At some point this morning I solved the issue.

but thanks anyway :)

unpinning the program did not work, twas one of the first things i tried, which for some reason resulted in duplicate shortcuts...

but for readers reference i will state that, deleting the contents of the user pinned folder then creating a new shortcut via the the Right Click context menu>New>Shortcut option seemed to fix the issue.

thanx for the support anyway peeps...
