Hi there. I know this question has been asked over and over. Anyway, my laptop has following configuration.
1. Intel i7 1.73 Ghz
2. 500 GB HDD
3. ATI Radeon 5730 graphics
4. RealTek audio
5. 4GB RAM
6. 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate

I formatted and installed 64 bit Windows 7, installed Shark007 codecs from following links and chose suggested settings.

Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs
Shark007.net - Windows 7 x64 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs

A .mkv video playes fine in Windows Media Player (32 bit or 64bit). In Media Player Classic x64 version, the video gets pixelated. I have latest graphics drivers. In GOM Player too video gets pixelated. In VLC, it is somewhat fine but audio gives problems sometimes in between. What should I do ?

your version of x64 MPC is using internal codecs. If you want a version that will use the installed codecs, you need to get it from Shark007's Tools page
Both GOM and VLC also use internal codecs, I do not know how to make them use installed codecs.

The Shark007 software installs 2 Settings Applications. Open each application and choose the SUGGESTED settings checkbox at the bottom. That should fix your pixilation issues in Media Center. This setting can sometimes interfere with mp4 playback and to correct that you would need to go to the SWAP TAB of the settings applications and re-enable Windows Media Foundation.

Also remember, the 32bit settings application only affects 32bit players and the 64bit application controls playback in 64bit players such as Media Center.

Thanks. That worked. However, audio quality wasn't as good as Windows Media Player. It was like bass was less. Anything I can do about that ? I chose selected settings as you said in both 32bit and 64 bit settings.

you could try disabling the Microsoft Audio decoder on the SWAP.
I do not know if that will help or not, but is worth a try.

Thanks. That helped. I have enabled srs wow effects in Windows Media Player. Is there something like that for Media Player Classic ? I see that you have updated the codec versions. If I have to install, do I have to completely uninstall and reinstall these codecs or any update option is available ? Also, any way I enable thumbnails for the .mkv, .rmvb media files ?
