I recently acquired PlanetSide 2 from Steam and am having a lot of lag while playing it even on the lowest graphics settings (getting around 15-25 FPS). Occasionally I get lag spikes which take it down to between 5 and 10 FPS for around 30 seconds. My graphics card is an NVidia 9800 GTX+ which is good enough to run Crysis 2 on maxed out settings (check my user profile for my complete system specifications).
Do I need a better graphics card or need to upgrade any of my other hardware?

PlanetSide 2 requires a decent GPU to run smoothly.
Turn off AntiAlias and try lowering other graphics settings.

And no, an NVidia 9800 GTX+ is not enough to run Crysis 2 on maxed out settings.

Current Minimum System Requirements:
- OS: Windows XP
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 or higher / AMD Phenom II X2 or higher
- Memory: 4 GB Installed RAM
- Hard Drive: 15 GB free
- Video Memory: 256 MB RAM
- Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8600 series or higher / AMD or ATI 4850 series or higher
- Sound Card: DirectX compatible

Current Recommended System Requirements:
- OS: Windows 7
- Processor: Intel i5 processor or higher / AMD Phenom II X6 or higher
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Hard Drive: 15 GB free
- Video Memory: 1,024 MB RAM
- Video Card: nVidia GeForce 500 series or higher / AMD HD 6870 or higher
- Sound Card: DirectX compatible

Your 9800 GTX+ can run the game smoothly at low graphics settings. Also it only supports DirectX 10.

I suggest you to upgrade your graphics card to a DirectX 11 one.

I can run Crysis 2 at maxed out settings and get a framerate of about 50-60 FPS.

Sorry, forgot me, I meant it is not enough to run Planetside 2 at max settings.

You should search for a good compromise between performance and graphics quality.
Keep in mind that Anti Alias is an heavy work for the GPU, so disabling it will improve drammatically performance.

Maybe it's your cpu choking on the game and about crysis 2 i'm assuming maxed at dx9? Because even with my card at dx11 i can't max it out without getting some kind of lag at 1080p i have to run it on the 2nd highest.
What resolution do you play at? Try lowering the resolution and aa and the fov.

I honestly don't think it is your GPU. I have an older Radeon 6870 1GB card and the game runs perfectly on mid-high settings for me. Like M1GU31 said, it might be your CPU or even an internet connection problem.
