Solved planning on reformatting hard drive for gaming performance.

So I have been told other people with lower specs than my computer are running games better than me (more FPS). So is there anything I need to know when it comes to reformatting hard drives to increase performance? Such as re installing Windows 7 and programs. And how long it'll take.

A new Windows installation by itself probably won't take over a half hour, but I wouldn't be so sure you will notice any performance increase. Your hardware is the primary factor in performance.

What's your specs? That could more likely be the culprit to low performance,also defraging and optimizing the hdd can help get rid of stutter in a hdd.

As I said, people with dual cores are reporting having better performance then me in this game which is Mount and Blade Warband.

What card do those people with duo cores have, they might have better video cards thus giving them more performance in video.

I'll use one guy as a example, has has 2.66 dual core with ati 5870 and runs XP and Win7 in dual boot. And he is reporting to run maxed with 500 units per side. I'm assuming with no lag.

2 cores or 6 cores may not make a difference if the game uses only 2 cores. The question is also whether the game does a lot of disk access. The other guy may have a faster disk or even a SSD. And then the GPU plays a big role and the amount of dedicated memory.

The fact that you run on a 6 core CPU is not the only determining factor.

So if reformatting won't do anything, do you know of anything to keep this desktop in peak shape? I run CCleaner, Gamebooster, Advance System care 5, and right now i am using PC Decrapifier to remove programs.

Please follow this procedure so that your System Specs travel with you and are always available to us.
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) orSIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

After your system specs are filled out, then I'll make some suggestions for you on how to improve your performance. The system specs help us.

Getting a better video card can give a big boost in performance, i got a better video card then my friend and even though mine is a quad core cpu althon ii 3.1ghz and his is a phenom ii x6 2.6ghz mine runs a bit faster even though both our cards max our games, he has a gtx 460 and i have a hd 6870 and my 6870 beats him by 10% but we both can max with no lag so for games the biggest performance hit is the card then the cpu. Adding a ssd would make your loading times faster also.

There are no such programs. All that advertise such thing should be avoided. Common sense is your best tool.

I'm not an expert on video cards, however, if I wanted a fast gaming machine then I would want the best video card for my system.

You can speed up your performance by using a Solid State Drive (SSD).

You can improve your performance by using Microsoft Security Essentials for your AV. MSE is very non-interfering.

Quite often the programs that you have installed will decrease your system performance. Submit the following info:

uncheck ALL

REBOOT!


Uninstall AVG and any other AV you have installed.

Install MSE (Link in my sig)

Due to the havoc wrecked via Malware from using torrent programs and the abuse of bandwidth, I am vehemently opposed to torrent software.

REMOVAL OF P2P PROGRAMS

There are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

As long as you are using any form of P2P networking to download files, you can anticipate malware infestations.

/sigh, utorrent has given me many pleasures. Is MSE better than AVG? Or is it just that MSE is lighter when in a background process. And I cannot disable the scheduled tasks with all the weird numbers.
