Media Player Classic - Home Cinema - Video Player
Free ... All codecs are internal... very easy setup... no WMP screwiness at all.
I use it on my system and have WMP and Media Center disabled.

It will play the Microsoft version of MP4 but not all of the 3rd party ones.

Also good... but a bit CPU laden... The CPU usage on MPC is about half of VLC... And on an Atom system, that matters...

Yep... been using it since it grew out of the old Media Player Classic project by Gabest... The latest version will play anything you throw at it... including FLAC and MKV... And as these things go, it does quite well.

Uhh...there is no Microsoft version of MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14). There is only one version of MP4 anything else is NOT MP4.
