playing NFSMW, problem with distorted image

I've just started playing NFS Most Wanted Black Edition on my PC. The native resolution of my screen is 1366x768. The max resolution the game allows is 1024x768. Its running full screen, but the video is distorted.
I'm okay with having black strips on either side if it gives me an undistorted video, but cant figure out how to do that. Please help!

The game is that old?

Video distorted means that the game plays well but scripted video is distorted or the whole gameplay is distorted?

Sorry, I don't understand and I don't believe that corrupted video drivers is the cause but that is the first thing I would try... install a fresh batch of video and audio drivers.
