When turning my laptop on I get a blue screen and I haven't got a clue where to start! I have included a screen shot of the blue screen that keeps coming up. I would really appreciate it if somebody can help me with this. I don't have access to another computer but I can get on the internet on my phone which I am posting this from. Many thanks.

The issue being is a corrupted file, unknown is it, however, if it is from Windows or a driver that boots with Windows.
Run below tests to rule out a few probable causes.

Diagnostics Test

 HDD TEST

   Note
Please run HDTune first, in the order posted!
Download an ISO from Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums and mount it on a USB to run HDTune

Run HDTune to
  • check the health,
  • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
  • run a benchmark.
It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
  • the health,
  • the error scan,
  • the benchmark incl. following
    • transfer rate,
    • access time,
    • burst rate,
    • cpu usage.

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

Thanks very much for the reply axe0. Does HDTune work on Windows 7 as this is what I have on my laptop? This link says it's for Windows 10 so not sure whether it will work or not.

My laptop seems to be running ok now, I did an SFC scan and it said 'no violations found' but since this scan I get no BSOD anymore and my laptop seems to be running ok. Should I still do all these scans to be sure everything is ok?

It is like with malware, even if you don't notice any issues it doesn't mean the problem is gone.

You should run the tests, if it turns out either of the tests detects a problem you'll be glad it is detected now and not when you have the same or worse problems as a result of not running the tests.

Thanks for all your help axeo, very much appreciated. I will do what you have advised when I get a chance and I will get back to you on this. Is this ok?

I have updated my system specs on my profile as they haven't been updated for a couple of years. My current virtual memory is 4058 MB but it says that the recommended amount is 6087 MB. Should I change this to what it says is recommended and what difference will this make if I do?

Many thanks

I've just downloaded the first part of your advice and burnt the ISO onto a DVD but nothing happens when I boot from the disc. I've tried opening the files on my deesktop also but they're not opening.

Do you change the boot order or select the disc from the boot options?

I've clicked on the link that says 'Download an ISO from Windowa 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums'. I've downloaded the x86 ISO on that page and the x64 ISO and burnt both onto DVD's seperately but none of them work when booting.

You need to go to the boot options and select the disc.

I believe you need to press F12 before Windows loads to bring up the boot options.

Sorry for this trouble, I wrote the ISO part assuming you couldn't boot and kept that thought.

You can install HDTune from http://www.hdtune.com/ instead
