please explain...clueless

I apologize for beating this subject to death but I am not getting it. I've tried reading the posts in this thread but I am missing the concept i think.

I have a Win 7 pro x64 system. I have installed some x86 software that seemed to install fine and run fine...at least initially. But I am getting some lock ups and some features dfon't work. I installed as Admin. And have run the compatibility troubleshooter several times. No joy.

So I am thinking that since I need this program and the version I installed I need to install and run a virtual machine. I know I need to download and install Virtual PC or Virtual Box or something like that and then download and install XP Mode.

But that's about as far as I get before I lose confidence.

I need a tutorial on installing a VM on Win7 and installing XP Mode (in the vm?) and then I need to know if I can just install the legacy apps directly or if I need to install XP on the VM?

None of this seems clear or straight forward to me.

I like Win7 it has great promise but I understood XP and everything ran on it.

I would greatly appreciate some help...

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. Went to tutorials at the tyop of th eforum page and didn't see anything about Virtualization.

But tell me...would another VM, like VirtualBox, work better? Seems like I've seen posts remarking that Virtual PC is not the best solution.

Would it work the same way? Just by installing XP Mode the same way you would with Virtual PC? Or are they a matched set?
