Please help -ALL of my computer take 5min at login- but are ok after

Hi,

I own a small computer repair shop and recently I have problems that I am very worried about.

All of the computers I reinstall windows 7 on have the same issue, they take 5min at login, it freezes at the Welcome screen and or When trying to input password.

It unfreezes 5minutes later (more or less) and everything works fine after, no issues at all, so I have been getting calls from previous customers annoyed by this.

What should I do? I have tried everything and no luck, also my Windows 7 pc that is 2 years old is doing the same thing.

Is it a Windows update gone bad? any ideas?

Forgot to mention, one customer I only installed Microsoft Security Essentials on his -new- computer and he is having the same issue.

Jorge, that is strange. Welcome to Sevenforums by the way!

What do all of these computers have in common, is it that you are using the same cd on each one? In that case the CD could be scratched, messed up, etc. You might try another full windows 7 version CD.

These computers have the owner's product key on the side of their computer put in after the reinstallation? Where are the product keys coming from?

No windows updates should be causing any issues. In fact those very updates may solve a lot of problems if installed. Do these computers have their latest drivers installed? It could cause a slowdown if not, but I would think it would be rare.

These computers, if they've had a complete reinstall, shouldn't have any trouble with malware without really browsing the internet at all. Are there any common programs installed on these computers or are they all just fresh reinstalls?

Hi,and thanks for the welcome.

After allot of research and lots of phone calls from angry customers this Unexpectedly slow startup or logon process in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7 solved my problems, as soon as its installed the computer boots normal, all of them are now fine, I will call my customers tomorrow so I can apply the fix, takes 2 minutes and thats it.

But why all of the sudden this issue? It is not the disk and its happening on both 64 and 32 bit installs.

The issue has also happened in new computers, so its occurring in fresh installs and in new PCs. In new computers I only install antivirus and office 2010, can office or Microsoft Security Essentials be causing the issue?

In my work desktop that has not been formated for almost 2 years since I installed Windows 7 it happened also in the same time frame as the others, so why in that one? if I did not install anything new and has the same Microsoft Security and office. Is it a bad windows update or definitions update?

Why is this hotfix not being applied via Windows Update?

I feel so relieved, I would be screwed if every computer I fix had this issue, imagine.

forgot to mention.

Computers, all, have all the updates, all the drivers and proper registration, like I said, it happened in New computers where I only installed Office 2010 and Microsoft Security

Why is this hotfix not being applied via Windows Update?

Two reasons - one, although you and your customers are affected (and thus feel it's a widespread issue), it isn't when thinking about the entire installed base of Windows 7 machines the world over. Second, it's not a security-related hotfix, thus it isn't considered "critical" or "important" unless you're having the issue.

I am pleased that you found a hotfix that fixes an issue that you've found, and the more times a hotfix is downloaded and installed or support cases that result in the hotfix as a resolution come in to Microsoft are recorded, the more likely it is that such a fix becomes a general distribution release from Windows Update. However, it's likely this won't get widespread release until SP2, like most post-SP1 hotfixes that are not security-related.

Glad you got it sorted Jorge. I will have to direct people to microsoft to look for hotfixes in the future. Thanks for posting back about the success.
