Hello there I am having a problem with my ethernet drivers.

I have an Asus P5Q SE motherboard and recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and since doing so I have been having a lot of internet connectivity problems.

I keep randomly losing connection to the internet, I looked into it and it was driver related, so I researched the issue in great detail and found others had experienced it yet no one had a solution, I looked for the most appropriate Ethernet drivers on the internet on another computer of mine and found that people had experienced the most success with the Windows Vista Atheros Ethernet drivers which were for my motherboard (Asus P5Q SE) so I downloaded the Vista drivers and installed them and I was surprised to see that it worked I had internet access again my problem was solved and I thought nothing more of it, but when I came to use my pc again I had no internet access right from start-up, this annoyed me quite a bit. I then went into the control panel and uninstalled the Vista Atheros drivers to find upon doing so Windows 7 had found the appropriate drivers and automatically installed them, I had the internet back again I figured it had solved itself, however again when I came to use my computer no internet from start-up, I still had the Vista drivers on my desktop so i simply re-installed them and again my internet started to work, but I must constantly install and uninstall these drivers every time I log onto my Windows 7 computer this means they must stay on my desktop at all times.

Im taking my computer to a LAN event soon and i really need to sort this issue I hope you can shed some light on this as i cant find stable drivers anywhere :(

which drivers are you using? what is the date? 11/10/07 or july or january are three different versions of the athrusb.sys driver. I have had most success with the 1/29/07 version, rather than the newer july or november revisions. Tho this is used for a belkin G adapter in my particular situation.

I've included the july and jan revisions. Give them a try.

Great to hear. But what is "strange" to hear is that they are working for you on the x64, when these drivers are the supposed x86 (32bit) version. Keep me posted as to how they turn out after a few days use.

I take it that you've already dl'd the drivers (vista64) from asus' website?

I noticed there are a few revisions of the driver there.

Give the one here a try,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

different motherboard but same Atheros ethernet, that and it is a damn sight newer than what Asus is offering for your board. Have had zero connectivity problems with that driver on my setup.

do you have windows auto update set to update and install?

Ken

Might want to change that to Ask, that way it can't sneak in any driver updates on you.

Just keep the Asus driver (it works with the beta version also). If the router can't find your network adapter just reset it. Then right-click on "My Computer" and select "Manage". Look for you Atheros network adapter and double-click to make appear the properties. In advanced tab select "APS Mode" and modify the value to "Enable". Next time you will boot you'll be happy to see the Leds of your router blinking  I also set the "Flow Control" to enable to see any difference but I didn't experienced any...
