I take it that in the intervening 12 minutes you got Win7 installed?

That might be some kind of record. Let us know for sure.

They should replace that RAMstick. Kingston would.

:) hehe well the expanding files part took 13 minutes.... and i wrote that after that completed.

Yes everything is working great now. Once again, thanks alot!!!

I am in the process of RMA'ing the RAM kit back to newegg... stupid ram

When you get it set up where you want, but before you do any (unnecessary IMO) tweaking, suggest you save a Win7 Backup Image to a primary formatted partition and external. This covers poss HD failure of either, and makes reinstalls never again necessary - just reimage the HD or a replacement flawlessly in 15-20 minutes.

FYI, re-reading the thread the only mistake I notice is found here:

X:\sources> comes up

and i type chkdsk/f

but it says,

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected

I should have noticed you missed a space before the /f

Sometime in the near future, I'd run a chkdsk /f to be confident of your file system after all of that.

I also noticed that so overlooked that one of the sticks he swapped around might be bad, as it was.

sorry,i meant that I switched the ram around although later i did remove the stick away from the heatsink but I didnt bother going through the hassle of taking off the heatsink to try taking out the ram underneath it.

Originally, i was so sure it couldn't be a hardware problem, as I had successfully installed XP multiple times w/o error... but I guess that XP must not tax the RAM so much.
