Please Help, Lost Recovery

So, I accidentally deleted my Recovery Partition. The Recovery discs I have seem to freeze at 8% when I use them. Am I basically screwed here?

Well if you have deleted the recovery partition and the recovery disks dont work, you have 2 options:

1) Order a new set of recovery disks from your OEM- HP i think? HP will ship them to you for around $20, you can place the order for your model via the HP website.

2) Borrow a win7 install dvd from a friend, install the same edition that your computer shipped with, then either activate online with the COA key at the back of the computer or, if that doesnt work, call MS.

What is your status? Are you in the middle of a botched install or are you fine and dandy and planning for the future? If you dont have a working OS, working recovery partition and working recovery disks, then you'll need to buy those disks from HP as I mentioned in my earlier post. Those disks will reinstall all drivers and any apps that came with your computer, including HP crapware. OTOH, if you install from a win7 disk, it'll be a clean, shiny win7 with no drivers or apps. Everything will need to be reinstalled.

Now, if you do have a working OS, you can make a fresh set of recovery disks. Or you can image the install with Macrium, the system can be restored from the image whenever desired.

1. Is that spare /7 an extra license? Drivers are being installed automatically (at least most). You will have to run the updates though. That can be a pain.
2. If you have a running system, do what Bill said - make an image ( http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html?ltr=I ) That is the least painful way to set back.

There might be another option.
Download and install Partition Wizard (it's free).
On the main Page is an option to Recover a Partition.
I've used it and it worked flawlessly.

The Recov disks will restore it to factory condition with all the factory bloatware.

Better to clean reinstall with the clean-copy DVD installer and your Prod Key off the COA sticker.

The installer is driver complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any then missing in device Manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer.

I'm assuming you ended up using the HP factory recovery disks.
Did the HP factory recovery disks replace the recovery partition on your HDD?

I ask because it may be of interest to others attempting a DVD factory recovery to know that their HDD recovery partition would be returned.
