I am trying to figure out how to edit "Groups" on my Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I launch MMC.EXE and add snap-in "Local Users and Groups". I then click on "Groups" from the menu. I see a list of approximately twenty different groups starting with "Administrators" to "Event Log Readers" and ending with "SQLServerMSSQLUsers$MyPCName-PC$SQLEXPRESS". The point is I have about 20 "Groups" listed on my screen which would make me think that I can edit "20" differently named groups somewhere, somehow, someway, on the computer. I know how to edit the groups as in adding users to the groups. Thats not what I need to know. What I want to know is how to "see" and "edit" the actual group properties that are given to users of a specific group. So, say I want to edit the "Administrators" group and the actual permissions and securities they have. How do I do this? I tried loading the snap-in "Local Computer Policy" and all it shows are two different top-level choices called, "Computer Configuration" and "User Configuration". I drilled down deep into both of these options and never found my list of 20+- groups. Where is this group list so I can select a specific group from the list and change or modify the "Group" properties, i.e., permissions, restrictions, etc. I cant find it.

So I started thinking that maybe there is no master list of my 20 groups in one place but that the group names are added to specific permissions, instead of the permissions being attached to a group. But I never could find a way to do this either.

The way Microsoft implements security seems very convoluted to me right now.

This has me frustrated because I should have been able to find it by now. Someone please help. Thanks.

I did what you said, poked around in the help page, followed some links. I still have no idea how to change any properties associated with any named group on my computer. I guess I missing a core concept somewhere. Still need help. Thanks.
