Please help me get back to XP!

Well here's my situation: I installed Windows 7 on my new netbook today thinking it would be fun. That was a dumb idea though because this netbook is going to be my main PC and I shouldnt use beta on a main computer. So now my problem is that when I try to boot from my USB, it doesnt work, and yes I made a proper boot disk.

So now I'm trying to run XP setup out of Windows 7 but I get the following error...


Program Compatibility Assistant

Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD



So what can I do now... Bypass this assistant somehow?

Hi there

Did you get any "recovery" software with your Netbook or did you manage to "Image" the previous OS.

If you didn't your only way is to do the following.

1) make a Bootable XP install disk -- ensure it's slipstreamed to have sufficient drivers to recognise your Netbook's internal disk. You'll have to create a USB bootable XP install disk. You should be able to do that from W7 before removing it.

2) Boot XP disk -- delete ALL partitions on internal disk

3) Install XP.

(Next time before doing any testing make a BOOTABLE restore Disk - especially with a Netbook that don't usually have internal DVD/CD drives).

Change the boot sequence in BIOS and make CD drive as the 1st boot device. now put the windows xp cd in the drive and Press Enter on "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt. Then follow the on-screen instructions to install Xp.
