PLEASE HELP ME stop this disk check!!!!!!!

My laptop has crashed and when I restarted it went to a check disc screen saying my c: drive needed to be checked for consistency. It said to press any key to skip this and gave a countdown of 10 seconds. I pressed several keys but nothing worked and it got stuck. My laptop then went into sleep mode after a couple of hours. I tried rebooting and the same thing has happened, it's completely stuck! I am due back on my client site tomorrow and ALL of my work is on my laptop. I cannot get into my laptop AT ALL.

Can someone PLEASE HELP ME stop this disk check!!!!!!! I'm desperate!!!!!!!

Was the 64bit 7 installation preinstalled or did you see a custom install there? Most often one of two things will cause the check disk scan to be seen. 1)registry error or boot file 2)problem of some type with hard drive

If you custom installed 7 you would need to try booting with the 7 dvd in order to access the repair tools for the startup repair or even trying the restore point to solve a software/Windows related problem. For an older laptop where 7 had been the upgrade the drive could now be seeing bad sectors or on the way out where a drive diagnostics tool would be the thought.

For a brand new or just recently bought model seeing the 64bit 7 preinstalled you would look at coverage under warranty for any possible hardware issue. Without a recovery disk you would need a live repair cd for the repair tools however if you never used the option included in Windows for creating a repair cd. In the meantime you can try pressing the F8 button to see if you can boot into safe mode where at least you will have access to your files while in a limited desktop. Sounds like the drive was marked dirty when something corrupted the boot files where you may not even be able to boot into the safe mode.

Thanks for your reply. I purchased my laptop recently and it came with Win7 preinstalled. It did not come with a repair cd. If I burn the cd from the link you've posted and then boot with that, will it just repair the bad sectors or will it wipe my hard drive? Thanks. PS: I'm leaving for my customer site in 90 mins and will not have any internet access so a quick reply will be really appreciated. Thanks.

I would stop the (apparently scheduled) task with schtasks /End in cmd. If you need details, let me know.

The repair tools cd are the exact same repair tools included on the 7 installation disk whether upgrade or full install version. The images there are provided free by neosmart mainly for those like yourself running laptop or desktop where Windows was preinstalled but no recovery disk was provided for quick repairs. The repair tools are for problems with Windows not for hard drive repairs.


The startup repair tool would help for the effort of finding what is preventing a normal startup. That won't wipe anything from your drive but make the automated attempt at repair. If you are able to get into safe mode or from the command prompt option when booted from the repair cd you could reschedule the check disk tool only with the repair switch added at the end. "chkdsk /r" to see that take the check disk tool out of the loop with the switch added for a newly scheduled run.

You sort of give the check disk tool a slap in the back of the head to wake it up with a new run scheduled to see if that breaks the looping problem.
