Please help, noob with error 41 crashes :)

I play a lot of flash based games and my pc has started crashing, It only ever tends to do it mid game although it has done it when idle a few times. I get a black screen and have to reboot. I then get the windows didn't shut down correctly message. I have looked in event logger and see a error 41 kernel/power issue is forcing the shutdown, is this a straight forward case of my power supply failing or something else?

A friend told me that it could be graphics related but as above, I have little idea of what the problem actually is.

I have uninstalled systemsuite and downloaded the other recommendations as per your reply.

I ran all the scans and the only threat found was by ESET which found 2 threats: win32/toolbar.widgi.G

System File Checker found no integrity violations.

I ran the game that I play and got a screen shot on hwmonitor, it went up as high as 90!

Hello mach, let me try to assist you, I would not play any more games until we get this straightened out. First your CPU temps are way too high and your PSU readings shown by HW monitor are way wrong. Please go into bios, and look for the monitoring page. I am not familiar with your board, but it should be there. Please tell me the CPU temp and the values of your +12V, +5V and +3.3V. I would like to know the Manufacturer, model and wattage of your Power supply unit and what CPU Cooler you are using.

If you are overclocking anything, please set everything to default values. While it is not the best for AMD Cpu's , please download Core temp and post a screenshot of the temps at idle and after playing a game for a short while. The problem really is the readings for cupid hw manitor are way out of line, and I don't believe or trust them. I believe they are wrong. I don't know if you understand the difference but T case (the temp in the center of the CPU) max is 70. The problem is we can't measure that bit the bios can, we have to use a temp called TJ Max ot T junction (the temp at the point where the cores come together) Neither AMD not Intel will ever tell what that is, so software has to guess at it. That means that the software is always wrong, but the better ones can be close. But, typically the readings we get should be about 10C above Tcase which in your case should be around 80. That is the point where the CPU will slow down and start shutting things down to lower the temps and protect itself. Core temp is not the best for AMD cpus but it will give me some information I need, and that is what I use for my temps, although I use an Intel CPU.

Whatever CPU cooler you are using, shut down the computer a.d let it cool off for a few minutes then reach inside and grab the CPU cooler and try to move it. Just with a little force, not excessive. I just want to know if it is secure on the CPU and is not loose.

If you could get me the information I listed above I would appreciate it and it will go a long way toward helping you. Also it would help if you update your system specs in as much detail as possible. Your PSU make and model, which tupe and model of your ram and the CPU cooler would help a lot. You can see what we want if you click my system specs at the bottom left of this post and see mine. Thank you.

Thank you fro replying, I am very green with computers, I can use them but this tech stuff is all very new to me.

I got into the bios and the readings are as follows:

CPU temp: 52 degrees
SYSTEM temp: 38 degrees
Values of +12v: 12.496
Values of +5v: 5.107
Values of +3.3v: 3.344

I have no idea what overclocking is, but I found it in the bios and it hasn't been played with.

First screen shot is idle and the 2nd is after playing a game for 5 mins.

By CPU cooler do you mean the fan? And where can I find out the exact spec of my pc? I have added to my specs the ones I can easily find.

Ok your voltages and temps in those figures are OK. The PSU is real good, The temps are OK too. If you look at the picture, you will see the TJ Max is 90C. That is the temp where the CPU will start shutting things down and reduce it's speed, trying to protect itself from damage. If I were you I would stay below 80 max. I would stop whatever is stressing my computer before it got to 80C. I would also invest in an aftermarket CPU cooler. It does not have to be an expensive one. Almost anything is better than the stock cooler whether it be Intel or AMD. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is reasonably priced and will do an excellent job for you, and is very reasonable. I am sure you have some friends that would help you install it. It is a reasonably easy job. Use a good brabd of thermal paste. Any of the better brands will do, and cost very little, but is necessary. Properly installed, you will have no problems with CPU heat. It is important to install enough fans to keep the case with plenty of the cooler outside air coming into the case. If you have the options, adding more fans can only help the temps. Heat is the biggest killer of computer components. Below is a typical computer case. I have drawn an arrow where the CPU cooler is, hoping it will help.

More fans always help. For whatever it's worth, I have a different case and cooling than you do, but I have 16 fans in my computer. Some are case fans and some are CPU cooling fans as I have water cooling. I don't expect you to put nearly that many fans in and if I recall your case, you don't have the place to put a whole lot of fans. So, I would spend the money to buy quality fans that put out as much air as possible as quietly as possible; at least if noise is as important to you as it is to me. Whatever fans you install should be intake fans to provide cooler air inside the case. If you have the stock CPU cooler, It seems obvious to me that either the install is wrong or it is not up to the task, And if you plan on any overclocking, it will never be up to the job. I would recommend a decent aftermarket cooler. Which one is up to you. Almost any aftermarket cooler is better than the stock one. I made a recommendation which is a low price cooler which, if installed properly, will do an excellent job, even if you decide to do some moderate overclocking. Whatever you decide, please understand you have to get the CPU temps down as much as possible. After all of this, I cannot promise that the CPU temps are causing your problems, but they have to be at a minimum contributing to them.
