Please help!! I have Windows 7 Pro x 64 with a graphics as onboard ati radeon xpress 1150 chip. I have the latest driver so far as device manager says.

I have screen savers and certain games that use Open GL. I'm getting the message that Open GL is not accelerated. This chip has no options in device manager troubleshoot. I checked display and it says 3D is accelerated.

I've search the net to see if this onboard supports Open GL but I'm getting nowhere.

Could someone tell me if this onboard supports Open GL?

I thank you for any help you can give me.

LoveSunrises :)

Hello Mellonhead!!!! Thank you for replying!!!! :)

I have a HP PC. My tech installed a AMD ATI chip graphic card HD and it wasn't to my satisfaction. He took it out and I uninstalled the cards drivers. My onboard came back into play but I got error code 43 in Device Manager so I rolled back the driver and my VGA Standard adapter took over and then I updated the driver and it said it was working properly (The ATI Xpress 1150.) Ever since that AMD card was installed and then taken out my Open GL isn't performing. I think the new cards drivers and etc corrupted my onboard driver

It's possible that the drivers were corrupted. Apparently, (I heard this on the web, so it may not be true) AMD doesn't support OpenGL in their recent drivers, though I find that hard to believe.

That would mean that you would have to use older, legacy drivers with your card for OpenGL. Do you still have the driver disk that came with your motherboard? The onboard video drivers would be on it and should support OpenGL. The onboard video chip definitely does, it's just having drivers that do, too.

I'll keep looking for confirmation on whether the new drivers support OpenGL or not.

EDIT: This is the most recent driver that supports your motherboard graphics. Try it and see if it works.

One or the other, you don't need both. The WDM driver is a smaller package. It comes without the control centre program. Some use the program, some don't, so it's optional.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello dear Mellonhead.

Well I installed both packages. I had the same driver as in your link already installed but I rolled back and then reinstalled from your link package.

Nothing has changed Open GL still not accelerated.

I did get 2 problems detected from Action Center this morning and I clicked to find a solution...Windows didn't find a solution but showed me details of the problems and it said "video hardware problem" Does this mean my onboard ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 is going defective and maybe that is why no Open GL accelerated?

It sounds like you need to completely uninstall the drivers and start fresh. Try do the following, please:

1. Make a system restore point.
2. Download Display Driver Uninstaller - Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 12.7.1.0
Read the page carefully, and don't click the green things that say "Download", they're just crap. The download should start automatically.
3. Scan the download for viruses.
4. If there are no viruses, run the downloaded file and have it delete your display drivers.
5. Reboot your PC.
6. Reinstall the AMD drivers that you downloaded earlier.

Hopefully, that will help get it working.

First off dear kind Mellonhead I want to thank you for all your expertise regarding this matter. What I did was go to Programs and Features (control panel) and I completely uninstalled the ATI package you linked me to which also uninstalled the driver that I already had. I rebooted and it went to Standard VGA Adapter. Then I updated driver from device manager :Display" and Windows searched the Internet and got me the correct driver and latest driver available for my onboard ATI Radeon Xpress 1150.

I truly think that the driver that was the same as your link package that was on my computer also is not for my onboard and not for Windows 7 Pro x 64. The driver that device manager installed is an earlier driver and what my onboard needs. I read in other threads with people with the same error "Open GL not accelerated" most of the answers were that the onboard does not support Open GL. There were many threads. I think your package is for the ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 card that is physically installed in the tower and the card supports Open GL.

My tech in coming out tomorrow (Sunday can you believe his kindness) and he is installing my new GeForce 8400 GS graphics card and it supports Open GL. So all my problems will be solved around 11 AM in the morning yippeee!!!!!

I have to tell you how very very very very much I appreciate all your info, kindness and knowledge. YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much!!! I'm grateful to you.

Best wishes, LoveSunrises :)

Oh Mellonhead this all has been a comedy of errors. My regular tech since 2004 has serious life issues and hasn't teched for us for over 1 year and 5 months.

I called on 4/28 a new tech from the phone book and when he came out to removed my old defective card I knew something wasn't quite right with him but I gave him a chance. On 5/1 he brought out a wrong video card then came back in 4 days and tried another wrong card then today he failed to have the needed adapted for the new card to connect to the monitor. I lost it a little bit and we agreed that I should call someone else. He did give me my check I wrote to him on 5/1 back to me.

So no new card yet and working with the onboard still

This is so exasperating!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Mellonhead gee maybe you could help me...you seems so very intelligent with computers and graphics. Do you thi nk you could research and get me a link to buy the graphics card I need? Please oh please dear Mellonhead.

Here is what I had before...I have a HP low end profile computer and below I put in my system information.

This is the card I wish to purchase: It is a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS and this is what is on the old box.

Features: TC512
HDCP
DVI + VGA
TV-OUT
OpenGL
PCI Express 2.0
Windows 7 support

I have a Windows 7 Pro x 64. The card can not have any HD because I do not have HD speakers or HD web cam. This now fired tech kept getting me HD enabled cards and my sound would not work.

I attached my system info .

Thank you if you can help me.

I'm a little confused as to why an HD enabled card would interfere with your sound. I suspect that what was happening was that the new HDMI driver was installing it's own sound, and your audio system was switching over to that. It's a simple matter to switch it back, but I guess your tech didn't know that...

Anyway, I found three cards that will likely work. They all support OpenGL and they are low profile cards. One is Nvidia and two are ATI Radeon HD cards. All are inexpensive, but should work just fine for you. And don't worry about the "HD" in the Radeon name. It's just a branding thing, and remember about setting the sound back to speakers when you've got the driver installed.

Here they are:

Good:

Newegg.com - New EVGA nVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card

Just as good:

XFX HD-645X-ZQH2 Radeon HD 6450 1GB PCI Express Video Card - Newegg.com

Better:

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6570 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (100324L) - Newegg.com

Remember, I don't know for certain if any of these will work for you. It depends on a lot of variables, and what kind of cards your system supports. In the end, it's up to you what kind of card you get, if any.

According to Nvidia's website, that card supports OpenGL 2.1, so you should be OK.

Yippee I got dear intelligent smart Mellonhead's OK!!!! I'm thrilled. OMG Mellonhead this new fired tech was such an incompetent!!! I didn't know you could switch from the HD sound back to your original..he sure didn't know how...so incompetent!!!!

My tech we've had for 8 years is having serious life issues and hasn't done tech work for over 1 year and a half. I am so lost without him.

And my horrible experience with this new tech which I fired was causing me such anxiety.

Now the problem will be getting a competent tech out here to install my new card when it arrives...ughhh

OMG I'm so thankful and grateful to you dear Mellonhead. You sure helped so very much and eased my anxiety so much. AGAIN YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!!!

Well bad news I did some research on that card I ordered and my computers dimension the height is not high enough for the card..the cards height is 4.8 and my computer height is 4.5

I e-mailed sales and ask them not to ship and to credit my card. So I'm going to look into your suggested cards...will let you know what happens
