Hi all.

My problem is simple: I'm currently using the Word 2010 trial, and I've been trying to get speech recognition to work. I've used this Windows 7 feature before, and it's worked fine with previous versions of office. However, on this clean install with Word 2010, whenever I dictate, the text appears in a small box with "Insert" and "Cancel" options at the bottom, and when I've written what I want I can insert the text.

This is incredibly annoying, because whilst it might be OK for essays etc. I am trying to writ bullet point notes, so I need to be able to say things like "increase indent" and "enter" at regular intervals to change the formatting, which doesn't work with this annoying box.

Here's a screenie: http://www.imagebam.com/image/6e9ae1109746754

Oh btw it works fine in WordPad.

Cheers very much for any replies, Michael.

Thanks for the help, I had a look and tried recalibrating the speech recognition, but unfortunately it didn't help . The speech appears as I dictate, but it's still in the box, as the screenie shows.

To get rid of text box

right click on the speech recognition icon, click options, make sure the "enable dictation scratchpad" is not checked. If it is checked, uncheck it. That should get rid of the box when you dictate.
