Greetings!

Would like to start by saying this site is amazing and has helped me a great deal with my recent Windows 7 install.

Everything seems to be running rather smoothly with the exception of a seemingly random restart about every other day or so.

Below is the latest error message I saw after a restart. Have attached both of the files mentioned in the message.

Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction to find a solution.

Had XP Pro before and did not experience this type of issue.

STOP 0x4E info: BSOD Index

Unfortunately, The Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE / NTKRNLMP.EXE / NTKRNLPA.EXE / NTKRPAMP.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following (this won't affect the troubleshooting of the current issue):
- activate/validate the Windows installation at Genuine Microsoft Software
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( Windows 7 Solution Center )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

So, we'll have to do this the old fashioned way....

First, please run this free memory diagnostic: Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)

Then, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. It is my opinion that these drivers are so old that they are to blame for the issues that you have. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager when updating them..
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:
How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers. Please pay particular attention to any dated 2007 or earlier:

Unfortunately I was unable to find any updates for the old drivers. Seems they are the latest versions. The hardware is pretty old.

Will run the memory test overnight.

I also got another BSOD today with different error codes...

Did you do these things that usamsa suggested?

Please do the following:
- activate/validate the Windows installation at Genuine Microsoft Software
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- open a support incident with Microsoft to see if they can fix the missing symbols issue ( Windows 7 Solution Center )
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

I don't see any errors in the Memtest.
If you can't update the Promise controller, the Logitech Mouse drivers, or the SoundMAX audio - I'd suggest removing those devices and replacing them with current hardware.

Trying to force a system to work without the proper drivers is an exercise in futility. It's like trying to make a new car run on older 14" or 15" tires. It's possible, but it's gonna cost a lot more to make them work than it would be to simply replace the tires.

Ken

My Windows installation is activated/validated.

I ran sfc.exe /scannow .. not sure what this does as the window closes right when the scan completes.

Would like to point out that Windows has NOT crashed since performing this 'sfc.exe' scan on Friday night (approx. 36hrs ago).

Hoping it's possible that this fixed my problem.

I see your point, but replacing something like the audio device means replacing the motherboard, which means basically getting a new computer. I do want one but not currently ready for the purchase. So until then just want to make the best of the hardware I have, since it ran XP with no issues, want to see what I can do with 7. If I continue to have problems after some troubleshooting, I'll just go back to XP on this machine.
