Solved Please help with BSOD (locale ID: 1033) whenever playing a movie file

Hi all,

Please help me with this BSOD thing. Every time I played an avi (DivX) movie using VLC or Win Media Player, it crashed. I've been doing a lot of searching online (at least 3 nights now) and when it comes to this BSOD thing, I'm totally lost.

Just a few notes here; system is running fine surfing/browsing the internet, nothing is wrong.

(1) I've been re-installing Win 7 Ultimate (32 bit) at least 4 times (reformatted from fresh) and it still does the same thing BSOD or crashed every time I played any movie file.
(2) Installed all drivers, at least to the latest to my understanding.
(3) Scanned system with both AVG Anti-Virus and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro and no virus to be found.
(4) Installed all latest K-Lite Mega Codec, problem still exist whenever I played any movie file. Then uninstalled K-Lite Mega Codec, problem still there.

System is old (5 or 6 years). First I thought it was the memory RAM, so I took the other half (1GB) out and leaving only the original 1GB alone, but problem still exist.

OS: Win 7 Ultimate (32-bit OEM)
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 @1.60GHz (Socket 775)
Motherboard: BIOSTAR Group (model P4M900-Micro775)
Chipset: VIA P4M900
Graphic: VIA Chrome9 HC IGP
RAM: 1GB for now (took other half out)

No Dmp's included in upload. Try this method instead.

BTW it might just be the Codec pack. Remove to test.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Ok... I can't open or read the .dmp file that it created in \Windows\Minidump folder. But I will attach the dmp file as instructed by you. Today, I tried watching a movie file and it crashed (BSOD) again after 1 minute. I save the log that windows created, below is the small event log.

I can stay as long as I want on the internet and watching YouTube and nothing is wrong. Today, I re-installed K-Lite Mega Codec pack, tried to play movie with VLC player and it crashed again.

AVG can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S .
Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

This was Related to VTGKModeDX32.sys 86c700-series Miniport from S3 Graphics Co., Ltd.

I would remove it to test.

You are a genius.... Thank you so much for your help. It took me roughly 3 & 1/2 hours to do a lot of searching online just to delete/remove that thing (VTGKModeDX32.sys) and I finally do it the "manual" way, but I'm happy for now (knock on wood). Simply because I can watch and enjoy all of my favorite movies (avi, DivX, mp4, mkv, etc.) just like before.

Thanks for your advice.... I didn't removed/uninstalled AVG, but I did turned AVG off while booting via "Safe Mode" and trying to remove that stuff (VTGKModeDX32.sys) manually.

I'm back in business now... again, thanks to you both for helping. If there are other issues, then I'll be back to post for more. Otherwise, this old pc of mine is still running smoothly.
