I do not get it My system is ready for the upgrade I even used the upgrade advisor thing Microsoft provides. I have a 60gb partition ready. Norton is updated and disabled. The Download from Microsoft went supposedly perfect as the integrity was checked and it was fairly quick. Then Burning with Power2go at 2.4x speed went successfully. So now when I go to install It gets to about 10% then goes ERROR some files are missing or corrupt etc.
Error Code 0x8007017
I do not see why I am getting this. The only thing it could be is the download and burning process. I have already went through 4 discs I only have 2 left =(
I really would like to try out windows 7 because i hate vista 3 weeks ago Vista screwed up my audio after an update which enables the noaudio ouput device found problem.

This error is not uncommon where the optical drive may be less than 100%. Using the same file set, create a bootable USB and try again. If it works, the DVD drive is less than 100%.

The tutorial is here. A couple of quick dos commands, then copy your DVD to the thumb drive. You need a 4 gb thumb drive. We see this error a lot in my shops. The drive works fine, just not perfectly.
If you have the thumb drive, and you are successful, you may never use a DVD to install again.
The RCs are downloaded using the temp install of the MS Downloader which verifies the file integrity of the iso to insure that is 100%. The problem could well be from the program you are using to burn the iso image with, a bad batch of blank disks? unless the dvd burner itself is toast as Antman indicated.
The usb key method using the shareware version of UltraISO has been used here quite often seeing reliable results for more then just 7! A good brand flash drive 4gb at least solves the running out of blank disk problem since it is a reusable device. RWs can also serve as a substitute while usb keys are a bit more reliable seeing less installation problems.
For a pair of reliable burning programs ImgBurn a lightweight older XP orientated program is free at The Official ImgBurn Website

Presently I have about a half dozen usb flash drives by Kingston, San Disk, and PNY with the last being the worst! The San Disk are far more commonly found in retail stores and seem to work better for most usb ports and usb hubs alike while Kingston(used for a 7 on Virtual Box install presently) and OCZ are usually the better brand names for the higher prices seen on those.
