Hello I have downloaded Microsoft's XP Mode for my Windows 7 x64 Professional machine but I can't get it to launch as it did not configure itself to any program. I tried to launch it with VMware but get a syntax error.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but with no luck. It doesn't even create the Virtual Machines folder in the programs list like it says on the Microsoft website.

I have found it in 'C:\Program Files\Windows XP Mode\Windows XP Mode base.vhd' but don't know what to do with it.

I have also tried to attach it as a disk in disk management but the computer says 'no'!

Any help most welcomed.

Did you forgot to download and install the Microsoft Virtual PC, as is clearly stated on XP Mode / Virtual PC installation and setup page at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7
Installing and using Windows XP Mode

To use Windows XP Mode, you need to download and install Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC, the program that runs virtual operating systems on your computer.

Seven Forums tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8247-windows-xp-mode-install-setup.html
(Notice that the Microsoft Installation and Setup page for XP Mode / Virtual PC has changed its layout after the tutorial was published. However, the installation procedure is the same.)

Thanks Karl. The Microsoft page I went to did not say anything about virtual PC but then I may of missed it jumping to the download page via Google.

That link to the virtual PC you posted is dead by the way but I found it through the tutorial post link.

Regardless, you solved my problem, thank you very much.

Phill.
