my keyboard seems to maybe be in some weid setting where it wont type, will freeze up or certain letters are pulling up certain screens. like hitting enter make the tools menu drop down or somehing makes the menue bar with file, edit and such open and the file tab highlights and flashes and freezes eveything and i have to hit esc or enter to unfreeze it, im so frustrated because i cant type in the search bar online either, it takes one letter and redirects me to a webpage preiously viewed with that letter and wont let me type anything. help. and also my number one key wont work at all. someone please help this completely remedial computer user.

Hello Shasta and welcome to the Forum. It will help if you could give us a bit more info about your computer. Desktop or laptop? Wireless keyboard or plug and play? You can add your system specs by going to "User CP" at the top of your log in screen and then in the left column edit specs.

After checking for infection using Rich's steps, if probs persist:

Can you get into the Event Viewer>Custom views>Admin to google repeat errors to see what is causing this? Type event in Start Search box.

Try http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Do you have a Win7 DVD installer for your version of Win7? If so, place it in drive and run a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R

If not, make your Acer E Recovery DVD's, copy out your files and run Acer E Recovery: Acer Support - Frequently Asked Questions list for How to use Acer eRecovery

There is a possibility you have an infection that will require wiping the HD to reinstall using the Recovery disks. If so and probs persist after recovery, wipe the HD using free Partition Wizard bootable CD to reinstall with Recovery disks or clean reinstall with a Win7 installer for your version using the Product Key on the COA sticker on bottom.

i don't have install cds beause its just a notebook and it doesn't have a cdrom drive, so whats my best option to do? i need to make a back up to a jump drive i know. if i do a complete hd restore i'll have to reinstall my windows correct?

You can write the Repair CD to a flash stick: install Ultra ISO trial version, open Repair ISO file on File tab, selelct Write Image file on Bootable tab, use Format button then Write: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

If Startup Repair fails repeatedly, then backup your files and run your Recovery Disks or the Recovery Partition using keys given on first boot screen, in setup literature, or in your Manual on Support Downloads web page for your model.
