Solved please help

ok i dont know where to post so here my situation... my little damn cousin tried to install age of empire 3 (not original) and in one of his smart moves he right-clicked to an exe file and selected open with/ win rar... now i cant open any program couse now the exe protocole is getting openned y winrar... how can i solve this

not sure how that could have happened. When I right click on an EXE file I do not see the "Open With" option that I get with data files. EXE files should just run, they should never be able to be "opened" by another program.

I even checked file associations in Control Panel and EXE is not a file extension that you can set/change.

Also not sure why your thread is showing as "solved" already.

Have you tried a system restore point to a point before the little terror messed things up?

If you cannot restore, try using Regedit. From start menu run command, type regedit > OK. Go to this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.exe\PersistentHandler and right clik on the Default and Modify
and paste this {098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb} then reboot and try any .exe to see if you are ok.
