Please recommend a LAN file sharing program that can stream videos

Hello,
I am sick and tired of attempting to figure out Window's faulty file sharing system so I've decided to look elsewhere for a file sharing solution.

What program would you guys recommend? I want to be able to share files between all computers on the network but also watch video files without actually transferring them over.

Please do not recommend any tips on how to fix my Windows file sharing setup, I'm looking for a 3rd party program at this point.

The easiest way is to get a router that has USB ports included. You then put your external hard drive to it and all of the computers connected to that router will be able to stream videos, etc. For a Netgear router which I'm using, the path is \\readyshare\USB_Storage. You can see this path in the network pane of Windows explorer as long as network discovery and file and printer sharing is enabled. You don't need to worry about these settings as long as you choose your connection as "Home" profile and not "public"

I can't help you with 3rd party software since I mainly use the method above to stream videos.

I currently use PLEX (FREE) and/or Conceiva Mezzmo (FEE) to stream Movies Etc from upstairs computer with USB connected HDD down to the Samsung SmartTV.

Both work very well.!! (Video/Music/Photos).!!

MakeMKV has a facility to serve video files. I forget the name of the standard but you can get details on the forum. The main thing to note when using the free beta is every update requires entering the new key code. This is to prevent using an outdated beta. If you pay you get a key code that allows you to keep the current verion or even back off to an older one. In other words, updating to the latest is not mandatory. I bought MakeMKV 2 and 1/2 years ago and it was plenty "stable" as far as for my usage. My WD player was not "live" so I never tried the streaming facility myself.

What makes you think that a third party program is going to magically make this work for you?

If you can't get this working with Windows then there is little chance some third party program will work for this, yes I'm serious.

I have zero problems streaming anything and everything using Windows.

Are you saying I'd still have to setup permissions in the same way anyways before such programs could actually work?

Still have the same issue. This is for years now I've been unable to share files across my network consistently. Some folders simply do not work, I follow the exact identical steps I do for other folders and still nothing.

Is there seriously no program that simplifies this? I can't imagine your average Windows user is forced to crawl through the permissions like this.

EDIT: I think I found the problem!!!!!!! COME ON!!!! This better work...
