hi everybody,
I use vaio vgn-sz79mn ... windows vista business
and every time i try to upgrade or do clean install for my windows to windows 7 this happens :

1- everything works perfectly fine.
2- after about a month the laptop starts to become very very slow.
3- after that i get the blue screen of death and i lose everything.

this happened to me like 3 times.

now this is how i upgrade my windows :

1- i insert the CD and let it do it's job.
2- i download the drivers from Sony's website and i install them.

yeah i forgot to say that with windows 7 every time i shut down a message shows saying :"there is a program preventing your computer from shutting down do you want 1- force shut down 2- cancel ( i think ) "
and then in less than a second the laptop shuts down without letting me to choose from the two options.
and i didn't experience a similar slowdown with Vista. and i use the original hard drive + 1TB external hard drive from WD
and of course the M2 adapter that comes with the laptop i leave it always inside the laptop .
the 1 TB WD http://globaltech-ow.com/Products/St...images/TTB.jpg
the M2 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

and i installed windows 7 on other laptops using the same CD and their working perfectly fine.

finally , English is my second language so sorry if i was not clear.:p

Hi Kak2a2, welcome to the forums , have you tried removing the M2 adaptor ,there may be a file or files on there that Win7 does'nt like ;)

In addition, have you ever wiped the HD before reinstall to remove any corruption?

I am assuming since you are clean reinstalling that you have abandoned the useless Sony utilities, so their partition should go as well since it may be interfering.

Have you made the Recovery disk set off of the Recovery partition so you have a path back to factory condition if you ever want to sell the laptop and keep your Win7 upgrade? I would do this and then wipe the Recov partition as well.

Wipe the HD and format using this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html

If you have any questions, please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map using SNipping Tool in Start Menu.

Also test your memory using built-in WMD test and HD using maker's full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

OK ,
I'm now using windows vista and everything is perfect
but i want to use windows 7 because it's faster and because of a lot of other reasons but also I'm afraid the same story will happen again.

so let's just take it step by step
why shouldn't i just upgrade the windows instead of doing a clean install for it and lose all my data and drivers ?
why do i get the blue screen of death when i upgrade the windows ?

the main reason to do a clean install of win7 is so you do not get any corruption transferring over from vista ,backup all the data you require ,do a fresh install win 7 will find 90% of the drivers for you ,the rest , if you can't find them we will ;)

You asked "why shouldn't i just upgrade the windows instead of doing a clean install for it and lose all my data and drivers ?". The main reason is that it's not working, right?

It's very likely that doing a clean install (formatting the drive during the install) will resolve the problem you are having. If not, use your image backup (you do have one, right?) to put everything back as it was. You have a 1TB external drive so there should be plenty of room for an image backup. Macrium Reflect (free) is good for doing this.

Is the M2 adapter you mentioned a USB flash drive? If so, as pebbly said, remove it during the install, plug it in when done.

Nothing to lose but some time doing it this way.

If you boot from you Win 7 CD, it will ask you if you want to do a Custom Install (Clean Install). Say yes to that and it will format your HD and install Win 7. Be sure and backup your files before you do this because they will be gone in the format. It should take about 45 minutes to install Win 7. == Your question about shutting down when it asks you to wait until Windows closes or shut down now; that is not a problem. It happens on mine also. That is just some programs in the background taking a few seconds longer to close.

Thanks,

You didn't respond to a single suggestion I posted, so why did you post for help?

If you have questions about any of these critical issues, then ask them. Don't just ignore all help given and then ask us to pray for you before blindly reinstalling.

This is an interactive process - each question you respond to will generate a next step or suggestion. If you are unsure of the question or step, simply ask back.

Use Seatools to scan your HD from CD.

There are questions you continue to ignore about making Recovery Disks before wiping HD, whether you use any Sony utilities. If not, then wipe all partitions.

You never mentioned losing data. We could have helped you recover your data before wiping HD using Repair CD or DVD Repair console: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html

^^
I installed seatools
there are a lot of tests ( S.M.A.R.T check , short driver self test , long driver self test , drive information , short generic , long generic and advanced tests)
which one do you want me to do ?

If you do a clean install, nothing should go wrong.

Be sure to boot the Recovery Disk to make sure it works and see what options it gives you.

Also make the Macrium boot disk so you can use your Macrium image if needed. Go ahead and boot the CD to make sure it finds the saved image and cues it up for reimaging.

Let us know how the memory and hard drive tests go.

Before you wipe the HD to try clean install again, make sure you have the latest BIOS version by checking for updates on Vaio Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Also check in BIOS setup to see what your SATA controller setting is. Try AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

This time use the drivers given by the Win7 installer and offered by optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing can be found on Vaio Downloads page for your model.

If the problems persist after clean reinstall we will help you troubleshoot them in Event logs or in our expert Crashes and Debugging forum.

Yes I think he is going to do that. Now let's just wait.
