PNG file double in size when resized to 75% in MS-Paint

created with "Print Screen" and cut/copy/pasted PNG image into MS-Paint
Saved image as PNG, the default offered by MS-Paint



RESIZED TO 75% OF ORIGINAL
- in MS-Paint using resizing feature



What am I doing wrong ?
I have read PooMan UK's sticky thread https://www.sevenforums.com/music-pictures-video/183018-vector-vs-bitmap.html but I don't know how I should be processing images, obviously MS-Paint is not the solution. I get it that PNGs are bitmap and not vector, but that is where I am lost

Would appreciate which app should I be using ? Will Paint.NET be appropriate ?

MS-Paint was designed as a small and simple paint program for people with modest needs. It has few features and options.

PNG is a lossless image compression file format. Likely the original file had a fairly high level of compression. Reading a compressed file is much simpler than writing it. Most likely the file had a level of compression that the program was able to read but not duplicate when saving it. So it did the best it could which resulted in a larger file, even with a smaller image. If this is not acceptable you need a more advanced program.
