Hi All,
I am an experienced user and can normally fix my own problems...But. I have an older MSI K9AGM board and want to use a gt240. I currently have a PNY 9600GSO overclocked 768 meg card. Runs like a champ. I have 550 watt power supply but there is no donngle to card. Unlike the 9600GSO. I plug it in after I installed the PNY drivers and Windows begins to load. It freezes without displaying the four lights that become the win logo. I reset and get the system repair option so I attempt it. It freezes.
I then take the thing and put it in my kids intel p4 board. Also MSI 945GCM478-L. He is running Vista Home premium. Begins same problem after installing the PNY driver and reboot but his system repair works. Fixes problem card is great. But i can't get it in my 7 box. I have updated all drivers and I mean all. I have to wonder since my board has ATI drivers if the problem isn't the geforce versus ATI i have seen for years. But it really doesn't solve the system repair not working. Either drivers fighting or broken files and a forced reformat and reinstall.
So I throw myself on the mercy of the Great Gurus of win7 world and ask for help.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Seven Forums donnietr. When I installed my GT 240 (see my system specs). I just installed the card, and let windows find the driver, which it did. After I got it working, I then went to nVidia site and downladed latest Windows 7 driver. Suggest you uninstall the nVidia drivers AND any ATI drivers. If needed to remove ATI drivers, this is for advanced users:

Catalyst Uninstaller

Try installing without install CD. See if windows finds the card natively, then update driver at nVidia site:

Just replaced it in kids puter and made a drink.
I guess later tonite i will just reinstall win 7 and hope was a crappy install.

Drivers are the most aggravating thing. Besides my GPU drivers, I generally don't update unless there is a problem, or some great new benefit that comes with the new driver. The drink was a good idea, lol. But before you do a clean install again, you might try a Repair Install:

Or you can wait and see if anyone will come along with better ideas (does happen :) ).

Haya Again Aguy,
Well i waited til this am and then nuked old installation. I just now saw this last post but I had already attempted some of the things that were there. First i tryed to run sfc /scannow and got no problems from system files. That kinda ruled out the startup repair bug thingy. Wouldn't work anyways from dvd or from hdd. Must have lost a vista file for it I guess. Or ... don't have a clue. I saved a ton of files and my favorites and then redid win7. No apparent errors. reinstalled the newest nvidia drivers 25?.??. Reinstalled gt240 and loaded. Stuck at windows screen. reset and went for startup repair. Nothing doing , stuck at load screen for 15minutes, nohdd activity. turned off and reinstalled old card. Tryed startup repair nothing. Lots of high pitched screaming and awful cursing. Slapped wife noises ceased. Excellent stress relief. They should intergrate that into themes. Anyways reset F8ed and chose last good config. Worked. BIG HUH???
So is this some weird bug for the startup repair? is there an DLL for this to replace on mine? I have done that before on 98 and 2000. Kept it on desktop cause it was so regular. I know that my board has a 1.x pci-e slot but the 9600gso is an 2.x card and I'm using it now.....
Well I will cheak back and see if anyone can solve this. Next step is new mobo. But i really don't wanna do that.
Thanks man,
Donnietr
