I don't want to move... Metro as a whole is ugly as f***. Hotmail as it is is probably one of the best UI around. I'm making no move by myself. I will be FORCED.

Does this mean that if we were only using Windows Live Messenger (connected via hotmail.com account), that we can uninstall all Windows Live products from our machines?

i switched ages ago, there is very little difference to what you are used to, i find the UI clean and tidy.
the only similarity to the metro interface is the icons.

Yes, I knew those using WLM were told to "merge" with Skype. I was already a Skype user too.

I would have both WLM and Skype clients connected simultaneously in the old configuration.

Very recently, I got a message on WLM that said there was a "version update."

When I clicked on the version update in WLM, a Skype update install ran and WLM disappeared entirely. It offered to log me into either a Microsoft account or in Skype.

From what I could see, no merge took place. In looking at the entire Skype interface (all menus and commands and Tools->Options) I can find nothing about managing the Skype and Microsoft accounts in a merged way or "open-simultaneously" way.

Is there something I am missing?

when you open skype look for the list of contact,s if the title messenger is there just above the list then click the dropdown arrow and select All from the list, you should then see all your contacts ,skype and messenger.
alternately you can switch between the two if you choose using the dropdown.

skype.png

edit: you can also click on your name and in the window that opens under the accounts section, click manage, this will take you to your skype account online there you can check that your Microsoft account is linked. there will be a link to click to change the setting.

You still keep the @hotmail.com address. The look just changes. I switched over to Outlook over the past week, and I actually prefer its look compared to Hotmail. Also, it pretty much acts just like how Hotmail did, with a few different things here and there.

The new interface is much cleaner and works very well. It's mind boggling that so many see "new" as "bad".

Upgraded hotmail to outlook.com and now my android phone (with HTC mail software) doesnt recieve push mail.. only by forcing manual sync i get new mail that is unacceptable.. is there something I'm missing? I know there is outlook.com app on google play but its not very good drains battery, and has very bad UI integration.
