poor Standard user

I have worked with computers for the past 50 years and am quite disciplined. So, when I set up a new Asus AIO computer for my wife, I selected 'Standard User' privileges. Every time she logs in, three security warnings pop up to be dealt with. They are triggered by routine AsusTek service start ups. My wife doesn't take kindly to meaningless, routine rituals. I now put her into Admin mode. But I don't like it. I haven't figured out, how to set the appropriate ACU level just for these programs. Any suggestions?

What are these asus service startups? You can check by clicking on Start orb, then type msconfig, hit Enter. In the msconfig window, click Startup tab and examine the asus entries there. If you dont need them to autostart at boot, you can uncheck them to get rid of the popups. If you cant figure out, post here.

why trade off convenience for functionality?

Figuring out what the services do is no rocket science. They provide the multi media functionality of the box. Sure, I can disable the start-up of these services. But why trade off functionality for security or convenience?

Have you tried a Power Users group setting. Can't get there from the normal user account settings but if you RUN type control userpasswords2 and hit enter you will get a different dialog box where you select the account hit properties button then Group membership tab Other. Select Power Users.

That may give you the needed control over UAC settings.

no Power user

The power user route didn't work. In fact, among the various "Other Users" options, "Power User" was not listed. Probably, because we run a home network with Home Group activated. I suspect that Power User is available only on a business network with a network server.

I haven't decided yet, whether to go the route of setting up schedulled tasks. Maybe, I just use social engineering with my wife and let her in Admin mode.

No not really. But it may be because you are running Home Premium. I'm running Pro and although I do have 7 setup as/on the Work Network option I am certainly not running a server of any kind. Let alone a Domain controller.

You could try changing the network setting to Work and see if Power Users shows as a option. But then IF you are running HP I doubt PU is a option.

I have found it best to NEVER buy anything that says HOME on it.

never listen to a salesman.

I agree with you. I have Pro on my machine. But the salesman talked me out of Pro for my wife. Unfortunately, I listened to him.

Use Task Scheduler to run the two task with elevated permissions if they are so needed.
