Poor USB inputs on laptop

I record music, live DJ sets and I recently bought a new HP laptop. I discovered that if I have to move the laptop around it is very likely that the USB soundcard will intermittently disconnect causing an error stopping the recording.

Anyone have any ideas? I was curious if you can upgrade the USB inputs with a better receptacle? Or maybe a better cable?

Not much you can do with the USB jacks in the Laptop, the only way to replace them is either the whole motherboard or in some cases a small I/O board. As its a new Laptop, its still in warranty if you think the USB ports (jacks) are bad.

Otherwise, try a known good quality USB cable.

I have a home recording studio, using a USB connected recording interface unit (Roland Octa-Capture) and have a laptop for on-site recording. I haven't had any problems with USB connections on the Laptop.

I don't think they are bad just sensitive to being wiggled.

I tried mine, just now, and wiggling the cable didn't cause any problems.

You can also try a premium cable such as AudioQuest.

I have a Shunyata venom USB 1.5m and it works better.

Yes I would imagine it would. I don't use premium cables in my computer rig but as an audiophile I have crazy nice interconnects and cables that I actually make myself with all the right components.
