Welcome Oliver

You have to open them full window. Go to each file, right click go to properties then run maximized. This should work

Need more profound solution

Sorry, but this is crazy. I am not going to do that for ALL my files. There should be something missing at the Options or Preferences of Windows 7 that I'm unaware of.
Thanks!

Please does anyone know why my files are opened in the taskbar instead of being open at the screen? Thanks

Hello Oliver,

See if resetting the folder view settings back to default may help.

If not, then as a test create a new administrator account to see if they open properly in it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thank you Brink.
I am afraid of touching the registry... but well I trust in you.
I was able to discover exactly what my problem is: I can open the first file of Word, etc., or a first time program. The second time is opened minimized.

Strange, usually they will open how it was the last time it was closed.

I mean, the other file is still opened (or not necessarily) and a new one is opened of the same program (for example Word) but minimized.

I still did not try what you said of resetting the folder views. Should I try the "first option" that you mentioned there?

Or should I try first going through the repair option of the original CD?
I am very much thankful for your help. I am not a computer guy and I am already very frustrated with this issue of W7.

Oliver,

I would try opening the file first, set how you want the window to be sized, then close it. Afterwards see if they all open the same way.

If not, then try OPTION ONE to reset the folder views, and the above again.

If still not, then create a new administrator account as a test to see if it works in it.

Brink,
Thanks again for your help.
I tried what you mentioned in your first paragraph, and it did not work.

Then I tried what you mentioned in your second paragraph, and it did not work.

Finally, I tried what you mentioned in your third paragraph, and it seems to be working ok. It seems so far that. In case that works, I really don't want to create a new administrator account, that would a lot of time to built in the configuration of programs, etc. A lot of work customizing again my programs, etc. Could I fix the problem in my current administrator account? Trying "option" two or three at your web page or any other simpler way?
Thanks.

You could also try doing a repair install instead without losing anything.

If you end up having to create a new administrator account, you can copy all of the contents from the folders in your old account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders to get most of your settings back though.

bad news. My repair install did not change that. It was a long process that finished bad.

I am very concerned about creating a new administrator account. Yes, no problem about moving my personal docs, but isn't it that I have to reactivate programs, customizations, etc., the Office, etc. As far as I could see it is like starting over with the only difference that programs are already loaded in the OS. I do a lot of customization.

Really I cannot believe that this simple thing of files and programs opening for the second time minimized cannot be modified in another simpler way. How trying the other options that you offered, regarding modifying the registry?

Again, I express my deep thankfulness for your patience and help. God bless

OliverPE,

Usually if you include copying over the contents of the folders in the hidden C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData folder, you will get most of your settings copied over to the new account as well. If the new account turns out to not be how you like it afterwards, then you can always just delete it with no harm no foul. If it does work out though, then it would save you from a clean reinstall.

Hope it works better for you in the new account.

Hi Brink again,
Your last answer related to switching to a new adm account is helpful. I assume that I can simply copy the content of the AppData folder in my current account at my new adm account and pray customization will work ok, (for example that my Firefox Bookmark toolbars, etc., will be there.)

However, should I conclude that you think that there is no other way to solve this problem in my current account? That means, is it so mysterious this issue that THE solution is to come up with a new adm account? Sounds like throwing a Toyota Corolla at the cliff because it has a break issue...

saludos

If there's another way, I'm not sure what it would be at this time. :(

If this problem is happening with only one program, right click it on the start menu and choose preferences; there, in the "shortcut" tab, you'll find an option to start the program in normal mode, maximized or minimized; try resetting it.

If the problem is with all the programs then, even though the solution could be to set all programs to normal, that wouldnt resolve the cause.

Hope it helps =)

Reinstalling W7 nothing changes

Hi Brink, BadDayComing and co.

I really don't know how to solve my problem. I even reinstalled W7 but the problem remains. Maybe now I can describe it better:

For example if I want to open a Word docx with Windows Explorer not being maximized, the file is being opened on the back and I can see it on the back; however the Windows Explorer remains on the front (:
When I open the same file inside Word there is no problem at all.
Note that I never have issues with Excel files, but yes with Word files and other non MS Office programs. For example when my laptop detects a new drive the "AutoPlay" dialog box goes directly to the taskbar and is not popping up as I'm used to even when my horrible previous MS Vista OS.

Any other bright idea to enjoy my life?? I depend on you! God bless
