Possible graphics driver problem?

Hey guys, hoping someone here can help me find a solution to this problem.

I believe it may be linked to an incident a few days ago when I was watching a video in windows media player, and the screen suddenly flashed and I received a notification at the bottom of the screen indicating that my display driver stopped responding but recovered successfully.

Since then on two occasions, I left my laptop idol and when returning to my laptop I find my screen is a mostly white with a strange blur of colors, its somewhat hard to explain. The first time it happened I simply shut down my system and rebooted and everything is fine. The second time it occurred I hit alt+ctrl+delete and it corrected itself bringing me to the screen lock the computer, switch user, etc..

Could this problem possibly be solved by updating my device drivers? I'm on a relatively new (I've owned it for about 3 months) laptop with a fairly fresh installation from 3 weeks ago.

I recently had a lot of issues with display driver stopped responding but recovered successfully error along with my monitor just turning off and displaying weird colors when recovering and sometimes my screen would just cut out and I would have to force restart my pc to get it working again.

I would also recommend trying new drivers first but make sure to uninstall your old driver before you install new ones and check your laptop manufacturers website before just getting the newest from ati or nvidia. If that does not work and if you are a gamer try to find a game that causes your driver to stop responding for trouble shooting reasons. If your still having the issue

If you run and nvidia card there are known issues with nvidia laptop cards and windows 7. Open your nvidia control panel and under manage 3d settings on the global settings tab find power management mode and switch to prefer maximum performance. This has been know to fix some issues. If your still having the issue

Then test your memory. If it says everything is ok you may still want to test them 1 stick at a time or send it back to have them test for you. It took me a while to solve my issues and it just turned out to be 1 bad stick of memory. The only symptom I had was the display driver errors

Updating my drivers actually made my game crash, so I restored back to the old drivers and my game runs smooth as usual. I haven't tested this yet, but the only thing that has behaved strangely is my screen when returning from screensaver / sleep. I suppose I'll simply leave it as it is for now since I'm not having any serious problems. Thanks for your input guys.
