Solved Possible product code glitch.

2 years ago (August 2010), I had a desktop tower computer, which I installed Windows 7 onto. It worked fine for a bit... then died. I never had a chance to uninstall Windows 7, because the 4 year old machine just spazzed out and died. Today, I found the install disk for Windows 7. I decided to install it onto an old laptop I had (A Lenovo 3000 n200), but the problem was that I could not find the product code. It was the same code used to install Win 7 onto to old desktop, now dumped, and to my surprise, it worked.
Now for my question.
Did this happen because Microsoft did something about the product code because the computer it was on died, or did it happen because I was lucky? And if I was lucky, can I call Microsoft and tell them what happened in order to make my laptop's Win 7 truly legit?

If it's a retail version of Windows 7, it's legit.

There is no explicit deactivation. I suppose that the activation server resets in time, just as for Windows XP. If it hadn't reset, telephone activation would have been required.

If you want to check that it's properly activated, post an MGADiag report, and I'll take a look-see.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

I just verified on http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and it eventually ended up on a page that says my Windows 7 install is genuine after it verified.

That all looks good to me - if you want further confirmation, validate the system at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate.

There's no need to remove anything in the report - the parts it publishes aren't enough to enable theft or counterfeiting. The only people who can 'undo' the hash/Key combo are those logged in to MS's activation servers from MS itself, and the only information that they get is the result of the last 100 attempts at activation and validation, and any changes in status of the Key.
