Possible ram problem?

hey guys! I recently bought 4X 1GB 400Mhz PC3200 crucial tech ram sticks and it is showing in CPU-Z running at 200Mhz!! (pic included) and I had some old ones before that and they too showed running at 200Mhz which is why I bought the new ram, is there something wrong with my board? or is it normal?

comp specs: HP Media Center m1270n and I have windows se7en 32Bit 3.0Ghz cpu

is there some sort of settings I have to make in the bios? I've looked and I can't see anything that pertains to the ram frequency settings what could be wrong? thanks

I do believe that is normal. It's "DDR" memory, which stands for Double Data Rate. So you have to double the number. 200 x 2 = 400.

Ok, OK ...I missed your system info posted inline, but from what I can tell, you're running in single channel when your system supports dual channel, as per this link (and a few others):

The fact that you're running in single channel (as per your CPUz screenshot) means either that you're using the wrong RAM or it's somehow the wrong config.

Also ignatz is correct. You double the 200 DRAM which is doubled by FSB to 400MHz. FSB- Front Side Bus

wow that RAMmon is PERCISE AND DETIALED!!! but look in the red rectangle I did it shows 200Mhz too! also my ram in my specs only shows 2.75 out of the 4gb and its buggin the sh*t outta me! LOL but I know I cant do nothing about it! GGRRR

Yes, I did miss that, but was busy correcting myself when you posted. But still, my investigation shows that the m1270n should be running in dual channel. You likely have seen my corrected post by now.

He is running 4 x 1MB sticks. That is allowed on his board as max.
The CPU-Z is set to show slot #1 not all four. Which has one 1x1MB stick.

RAMMON is showing all four.

Bus speed is 200MHz in. Bios for the moboard has a multiplier which is set from the factory on HP boards. 2x. So output is 400MHz.

You are good to go.

That 200 MHZ showing is perfectly normal, most programs will show it as such and not at 400. This might help a bit,

As for only 2.75 of 4 GB being available, 32 bit Windows. You want all 4 GB you're going to need 64 bit, unfortunately you can't do that with that P4 in it,

ok thanks guys you are the best! BTW I want to change the CPU for a much stronger one, what do you guys suggest? cuzz as of now its the bottle neck! I score only a 4.0!!! that seems low for a hyperthread CPU, or I might put new thermal paste! maybe that might help more what do you guys think? check this out :sarc:

According to HP, here are your motherboard specs. Given those specs, you could upgrade the processor to a 3.8 GHz model.

But I wouldn't advise it. It would likely boost your rating from 4.0 to maybe 4.3, but you are still on 5 year old motherboard technology---socket 775, ICH 6, and an i915P chipset.


Keep that money in your pocket. Add to it until you can get a motherboard with a newer socket (1155 or 1156).

Your HP case may still be acceptable and you might be able to put the new motherboard in it. I'm not sure about HP case specs. If it is just a standard ATX or micro ATX, you would likely keep it.

That is okay. After your post I double checked all my info and Beman's. That never hurts.

I could have made the misread.

I did one this morning on Win Updates. I assumed the poster was having same problem as others this week.

After RichC46 reposted I rechecked and realized the problem downloads were XP on a Win 7 system which it should not be even trying to download and install. :shock:

My posting was useless to say the least.
