How can I make a folder completely INVISIBLE to a standard user account BUT visible to the administrators account?

Before you respond, let me state that I can successfully prevent the standard user account from opening the folder. So they are unable to look inside. I can do this already.

But the folder still is listed in windows explorer. I want to make it so it does not even appear to ONLY the standard user account.

Simply selecting "hidden" in the folder tab does not work because it makes it hidden to everyone, including the administator (unless I select view hidden folders).

There are two types of hidden folder. The standard hiddem\n, and the system folder. In either case, it is either hidden, or it is not. You have already touched on that. You can only prevent a limited user from accessing it, but the there is no "Super Hidden" attribute...

Right click on the folder -> Properties -> Check "hidden". -> Apply

In the admin account...
Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View -> show hidden files and folders. -> Apply

All done.

You should be able to achive this by removing the permissions on the folder from all but the administrator account - and any other system accounts - be carefull with win7 as in addition to the everyone group you may have homeusers$ or users which need to be removed to.

The actual permission that controls this is the navigate token so it is possible to just remove that although there is no real point as mixed permissions may cause issues.

also be careful with this as an incorrect permissions removal could cause every one to be locked out - the removal of rights is the suggested method as deny rights may also cause some unexpected issues

Right click on the folder -> Properties -> Check "hidden". -> Apply

In the admin account...
Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View -> show hidden files and folders. -> Apply

All done.

Unfortunately if the other user account is able to select "Show hidden files" in the folder options, we are back to square one.

I don't suppose there's a way to prevent the standard user account from selecting "Show hidden files" option. No advanced security option in the administrative tools?

This tutorial below for Vista will show you how to add or remove the "Show hidden files" option from Folder Options, but it affects all users though. This is the same in Windows 7 as well.

Even easier - set folder access denied
Then camouflage the folder deep in windows sub_system or a program others can't remove off computer (without super-admin rights) like a program folder /Ati

Stuff it full of emails from/pics of the mistress etc

You have to be extremely careful with the use of the deny permission, as this is the over-riding system permission

for example - as the Administrators group is a sub group of the everyone group, setting a folder to deny access to everyone and giving administrators full access

the system will grant the access permissions to administrators as a group and then deny access as a sub group of everyone

this would effectively deny everyone access to the files - not a good idea

Except for very rare system functions it is safer to remove permissions. than use the deny permission

It takes a lot of thought to plan a folder tree for permission based security but the deny option in an attempt to simplify the setup is not recommended.
