Possible to unlock OC on Radeon graphics card?

Hello, I just wish to know if it is possible to unlock the clock multiplier on the graphics card? The model of my card supports over-clocking, yet this feature is unavailable to me in BIOS or via AMD Overdrive.

AMD Catalyst just updates the temperature and changing GPU or memory clock via Overdrive, has no effect on card. Also Because the GPU multiplier is locked, I am unable to use BIOS feature of dynamically and intelligently controlling the GPU speed according to load.

I remember hearing a while ago of people who where unlocking GPU's and CPU's and managing to over-clock them successfully, and I wondered if it is possible to do so on my card?

The card I currently own is an XFX HD 5750.

It appears XFX dont have such a software tool. I tried MSi Afterburner, Rivatuner and Palit Thundermaster.

Afterburner allowed me to change core and memory clocks for nearly ten seconds, then the grphaics card reloaded the default values again.

Thundermaster was meant for Nvidia cards and was unable to provide any readout other than temperature on an ATI card.

What I was hoping for was a facility to alter the cards BIOS to unlock the clock multiplier. Im sure I have seen this done in the past. Cant remember where.

Because Afterburner, Palit Thundermaster, EVGA Precision X and RivaTuner is made for NVIDIA Graphics cards.

Yes, I have the OverDrive selected in CCC!! No matter what clock setting is changed, the actual GPU clock stays at 400MHz and Memory clock stays at 1240 MHz (see picture).

The card will stay at 400 MHz until it is put under load, then it will jump up to the OC frequency. Same with the memory clock. Radeons have flexible clock speeds to conserve power when the card isn't being taxed.

That's how mine works. Observe my card at near idle:



Under load the GPU jumps up to 1100 MHz and the memory clock goes to 1300 MHz. Just as you'd expect it to.

And your card is running way to hot to overclock. Just my $0.02

I think that's what every video cards do now and then. Even my GTX 460 SE does this.

I carefully removed the graphics card to have a look. Cannot see anything. What do you reckon?



Perhaps it is placed underneath the fins of the Heat Sink Fan?

Thx. I used Heaven Benchmark 4.0 to load the GPU while I monitored the clocks on CCC. And it does indeed jump in frequency to the OverDrive limits.

Yes, I see it is only a single fan card. Plus I was running it with side panel and side panel fan removed off case, at the time of measurement.​
