Power Loss To Notebook Shows Loss of Windows Activation (!!??)

I had a power loss while running on battery (it still showed power left, but suddenly shut down anyway) and when I restart, it reports that the Windows is not activated and Window is not genuine and system might be a victim of "counterfeiting."

Is this a virus (I have MSE on continuously and about once a week scan with Malwarebytes)?

I have run 'sfc /scannow' with filtered output ('findstr /c: "[SR]" c:\.....\logs\CBS\CBS.log" and it appears as usual.

How can I lose my Windows activation?

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

There is a Product number on the sticker of the machine. Should I enter it?? Why would it lose product activation?

The Windows came activated from the OEM (ASUS/BestBuy) since purchase Mar 2012.

This issue occurred just before a loss of battery power

The installation appears to have lost the link between your Key and the rest of the OS :)


Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Followed the service shutdown.

Was asked to enter the product key.

Entered product key and after a few minutes, it said Activation failed with an error code
It showed a next button, so I pressed it.
Then it said activation was successful.
Rebooted.
Look at Start->Computer->Properties to look for product status.
It said the Windows software installation was "Genuine"

I assume it is successful.
