Power On from OS?

The UEFI on my motherboard (Fatal1ty P67 Professional) offers both the old BIOS method of scheduled Power On using the motherboard RTC, as well as RTC Power On by OS (if the OS supports this feature).

I assume that Windows 7 Professional 64-bit has this feature, but I have been unable to find a way to make it fire from within Windows, although it works fine from the motherboard settings. Any suggestions?

Please note that I'm not asking about Wake from Sleep Mode, this is a full Power On from a previously Shut Down state.

I don't see how that could ever work? If the PC is off, Windows isn't running. So if Windows isn't running how can it turn it self on? I must be missing something? In any case I'm now subscribed to this thread so I can follow along and see if you can actually get that to work or not.

Not that I know a lot about these types of things but the motherboard battery keeps tabs on the time and all that when the PC is turned off right? Does that not mean that you could have some kind of timed power on? :huh:

Yes, you can set your BIOS to turn the PC on at a certain time. I have mine set to turn my PC on every morning at 8 AM. Thats the "Power on by RTC" option the OP mentioned above. Its the "RTC Power On by OS" option he is trying to get working. My BIOS doesn't have that option. My guess is its one PC turning the other on, not a PC turning itself on, something like wake on LAN.

I suspect that Windows is meant to send the next Power On time for the motherboard to store in CMOS.

Interesting that (so far) I didn't get any trite replies that say "Why not use the motherboard RTC, as it seems to work". Looks like the regulars in this forum understand that if someone asks a question, they have a reason.

Have you got a link to any info on this function? I did a little Googling but didn't really find anything. Maybe you have to install a utility or program to run from Windows to change the settings? I very rarely change my startup time, but I can see where it would be convenient to do it from Windows instead of rebooting into the BIOS.
