Power Option Not Working

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on a Sony laptop computer.

All of a sudden (may have been after the recent Windows Update), my computer will not turn off the display. I have the screen saver set to 10 minutes and the screen off after 20 minutes. The screen saver comes on appropriately, but the screen does not go off anymore.

It used to work just fine.

I have changed the timer settings to see if it made a difference, but it did not.

Any suggestions on how to get this working again?

Thanks.

Try a System Restore to before the last Update. If that fixes it then you need to install the updates a few at a time until you find the one causing the problem.

Turn off the screen saver which is a relic from the days of CRT monitors.

Set your Power Options to Balanced Mode, Display to approx 15, Sleep to 30 and Hibernate to 45-90 to take advantage of these convenient features which are perfected in Win7. This way you can walk away from your PC and not have to worry about leaving work out whether you come back in 45 minutes or 45 days.

I'd also enable Hybrid Sleep which writes Sleep to the HD as well as RAM in case of a Power Failure. Normally only Hibernate writes to the HD so it can later Resume (twice as fast) with your work put back out on the desktop as you left it.
