Power Supply

I had my computer built in January 2008. In early 2009, I had to have a new power supply which I had installed at a different place from who built the system. My computer is in the shop again having another power supply put in. I am not sure what quality psu was in it, but I have asked to have a better quality one installed this time. My question is, how long should they last? I always thought about 4 or 5 years.

Buy an Enermax or Thermaltake or Corsair or OCZ -any power supply from a well named brand that costs more than $80- will provide power to your computer at least 5 years.

I would expect 4-5 years out of most quality power supplies.

Definitley always get decent power supply. It's one of the only components you should never really cut corners when buying for the power you need.

Always try to use one of the free online power supply calculators to find out your power requirements and add 100-200 watts on top of the recommendation to allow for future upgrading needs
