Solved Power User or Admin rights needed to run program

I have a lab of computers on a domain that students use. They need to run an accounting program that is already installed on the machines. When a student tries to run the program they instantly get blocked with an error message saying they need Power User rights or administrative rights. There would be an issue giving the students those rights for the whole machine, but how would I allow those rights just for the program?

Ive tried running the program as administrator and even having it automatically run as an administrator for all users and still got the same error.

I'm not sure how this may work on a domain, but you might see if you may be able to use either tutorial to create a elevated shortcut that standard users could run elevated without getting an error or UAC prompt.

Thanks for the reply Brink.

I tried the way without UAC prompt (also note UAC is turned off on the machines) and the shortcut worked perfectly fine under my admin logon. It popped up a cmd prompt for a second and then the program launched. But logged in as the student the program didn't launch. I also didn't get the error message as i would if i tried to run the original program shortcut.

some more info, i already gave the users full permissions to the program folder.

The only way i got this to work was to suck it up and give the users admin rights. made a security group in AD and gave only the students who needed the privileges those rights on only those machines. GP still limits them mostly so we will see if any problems arise from it.

I'm happy to hear that you found a workaround. Hopefully no issues will arise from them having admin rights.
