Hope this is appropriate for this forum.

I purchased Office 2007 when I bought my new computer with Windows 7 but only with the trial version of Powerpoint since I only view PP files but do not create/edit them.

Now that the PP trial period has expired I get a message stating such every time I try to open a PP file. So I downloaded the free PP Viewer. My problem is the files are still associated with the original PP and I don't know how to associate them with PP Viewer. I know how to change associations using "Default Programs: Associate a file type or protocol with a program" or to "left click: Open With" but when trying to browse for the PP Viewer program I don't know where to find it.

Okay, before you do the defaults thing in 'Open with', find the file location by typing in the program name into start menu search, right-clicking the program and on the 3rd/4th option down should be 'Open file location'.
Click next to the folder in the address bar (address bar, not an actual file), and press 'Ctrl' + 'C'. Now go to the 'Open with' option on your PP Viewer file, and when you choose the browse option in the set default, click on the address bar and press 'Ctrl' + 'V'.
This copies the location of PP viewer, and now you can use the pp file default opening with the pp file.

But that only points to the shortcut - and if you try to find the exe file by clicking the shortcut's properties it is grayed out with no usable information. For some reason Microsoft buries their programs to make them hard to find. Through Google I discovered the Viewer file name was PPTVIEW.EXE. It was simple from there.

Thanks!
