when trying to download any of the above, on either of my computers, one running vista, one running 7, I get issues with either corrupted files, or unknown publisher not letting me install it. any idea on how to fix this? as downloading safari is the only way for me to fix a problem i have been having with netflix

So have you gotten your computer cleaned up with the AV software recommended in another thread? and have you recognized the importance of a limited account with a strong password for the admin and limited.

If you don't fix whatever is causing this corruption in the 1st place, and set your self up with some protection, I suspect eventually you will lose everything on the computer, or have to go through some serious hoops to recover them and the OS.

When you go out in cold weather you wear a coat and gloves, do get what I and others have tried to point out to you?

Run a few scans to be sure you're not infected...

Once you've finished those scans, try running the installation again if they fixed any problems. If they didn't then you may have a problem with the operating system itself.

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following command:
(Start > Search > cmd.exe > Ctrl+Shift+Enter)
sfc /scannow

After that process finishes, restart your computer and then attempt to install the files again. If you're still having issues then you likely either have a corrupt installation or somehow your internet connection is corrupting your downloads.

If you think it may be your browser causing the corrupt downloads, you can try this method to download firefox:

Open an elevated command prompt
(Start > Search > cmd.exe > Ctrl+Shift+Enter)

Type the following commands in order, pressing enter after each one and waiting for the previous command to finish before starting the next.

FTP ftp.mozilla.org
anonymous
[email protected]
HASH
cd /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/win32/en-US/
BINARY
lcd c:\
mget *.exe
yes
(Now wait for the # (hash marks) to stop.)

Note: Downloading through command prompt may prompt your firewall to ask for permission, just say yes

If you would like to do the same for opera, use the following commands:

ftp ftp.opera.com
anonymous
[email protected]
HASH
cd /pub/opera/win/1053/en/
BINARY
lcd c:\
mget *.exe
no
yes

What doesn't work? The ftp download? You have to give the ftp.exe program access through the firewall when it asks. Also, the files get downloaded to your c:\ drive.

If you're having trouble, follow the more detailed tutorial here:

How to download Firefox 3.0 via FTP on Windows XP | eHow.com

Note: It says WinXP but that process will work on Win7 as well, although you may have to turn off UAC and give the ftp program access through your firewall.

I wonder if the OP is running the downloads from off the web rather then downloading the .exe and then running them. I have seen others do this and have problems. I also don't run anything until it is cleared by a AV if possible. Good luck you all.

There's no way to execute the application through a temporary download if you use the FTP method.

Either way, if you really can't figure out how to get Firefox to download through FTP, download this .bat file and double click it. It will download version 3.6.3, install it, delete temporary files and then open firefox on sevenforums.com.

Note: If firefox doesn't open then it's likely because you're on a 64-bit system, if you are, just type the following line into the run command:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

Here's an Opera .bat file as well.

View attachment opera1053.bat

Again, if Opera doesn't open at the end it's likely because you're on a 64-BIT system. Use the line:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera\Opera.exe

The ftp method makes sense, I was just phishing for some actual information as to whats really going on as we are not getting a full picture of the methods used. I am hesitant to give advice to anybody without, knowing the outliers and variables of any given situation. It is the protection of the person OS that is my concern first not whether I have the answer. ;)

Good to know about this command line ftp alternative thanks.
