I have burnt a Windows 7 .iso to a disc and I was wondering if anyone else with a burnt/real copy do you have a choice of installing Starter, Business, Professional or Ultimate.???

I thought this was just me, I was like why would they just give you the other of the OS for free. They didn't do that with XP.

And, I installed Windows 7 starter as I only have 448mg of ram and I currently run Linux. But anyways, I'm buying a new computer it costs 439$ here are the specs.

320gig Sata harddrive.
3gig of ram - 4 total slots, 3 used, 1 free.
No monitor - I have one no need to buy another one.
A intel processor - Forgot which one.

That's about basically the importants of it.

I was going to buy this temporarly until I get a job in april but I wanted to know with 3gig of ram which OS should I use. I could use the one that requires 3gigs of ram(Professional) and I have a question about that. When you use a OS shouldn't you have some free ram or should you max it out???

See if I install starter(Crappy) then I would have 2gig of FREE ram but if I install Business(I might just install it - I'll give a reason why.) I would have 1 gig of ram..

Now, the reason why I would most likely use business and the reason why I don't want to.

Need to reasons: I am a Website Developer, I often multi-task and need a few windows open, Like maybe 3 firefox's 2 ftp programs and a msn messenger.

Now the reasons I don't want to: Someone told me this wasn't a multi-tasking one, That it was for a bit of photo's and business like stuff.

Now, I do know that Ultimate 32bit requires 4gig of ram, Could I run it decently on 3.???

And when I get that new computer in april it has the following specs which I will run Windows Ultimate 64bit. - Which is good for what I need it to do.

320gig Sata harddrive
10gigs of ram - 10 total used, 12 slots, 2 free. - Will add the extra 2 probably buy them seperate.

Processor: Intel I7 Core

No monitor. - No need once again. I got a 17inch HP.

USB 2.0 slots - 8

That is the major specs of it

Now, here are the links to the two computers I was talking about.

PC:1 - Top one.
Systemax Build-To-Order Desktop PC based on the Intel® G31 Chipset, Optional Windows XP Professional, Choice of Many Options and Upgrades - Limited Quantity at TigerDirect.com

^^ - I beefed it up to $449.00 - < That has tax added so it was originally $419.00

PC:2 - Bottom one.
iBUYPOWER Gamer Chimera LX3 Desktop PC - Intel Core i7 920 2.66MHz, 12GB DDR3, 1TB SATA II, 896MB Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX275, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

Or this one

iBUYPOWER Gamer Battle Gear X3 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR3, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, GeForce 9600GT, Vista Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

I prefer the top one, It's better and it has a better skin on it.

I don't like that game on the side of that other computer, I played it and didn't like it.

Note: I will be spending 50$ to get a custom logo to go on the side of all the computers I get.

Now here is the computer I plan on buying say within the next 2-3 years.
MAINGEAR F1X 750 Gaming PC - Intel Core i7 975 Extreme 3.33GHz (Overclocked to 3.66GHz), 12GB DDR3, 1.58TB Total Storage, BD Burner/DVDRW, Dual 1GB AMD ATI Radeon HD 5870, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

An original Win7 ISO image does not give you a possibility to choose which version you'd like to install. From your post I read you do not understand how it is possible, so I think you got your ISO from somebody who has modified the original ISO (file ei.cfg removed).

That rings the warning bells, seems to me that you do not have a legal copy of Win7, and I stopped reading further.

I believe it is the key that determines which version is installed. If you enter a starter key then you get starter. If you want pro, then you need to buy a pro key. This is for the retail discs. Your download may be different.

As far as the Ram goes, 7 will partially load often opened programs into ram so as to make them open faster. If the ram is needed for other things then it will be released for that use. You can run Pro or Ult on 1 gig of ram, but it will run much better with 3 or more.

Yeah, I know you can run any OS on 1 gig or less but if you move your mouse down to the start menu it will take 10 minutes to get there.

And, I will try and get a CLEAN .iso file and find a key myself because I think the thing I got was bugged Ijust read from where I got it that someone hacked into the uploaders account and edited the file and uploaded it I was wondering why it was SOOOO slow doing stuff, It was also the ram had majority to do with it. I have windows 7 starter installed and until I get another compute rI'm just going to leave it there. I was planning on giving my mother this computer, She needs one and she likes ubuntu and it runs perfect on half a gig of ram.

Second, I will be getting a laptop that she will buy me with her money probably beginning of feb probably the 1st for 100$ it is a toshiba satelittle p10-s429 I had it before and I sold it to a guy for 100$ and he said I could get it back, There is no catch it worked just as perfect when I sold it to him.,

Well, if you planned on buying a more powerful computer later on, you could buy Ultimate and run it on a computer with 3GB of ram. The system requirements are based on the default display settings. You could always just disable the special "Aero" effects, slideshow wallpaper, transparent menus, animations, etc., and it would use up much less memory.

It isn't a good thing if the Operating System takes up most of your memory. Every program you run uses memory. The OS itself should use as small a percentage as possible.

Myself I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on an HP G60 Laptop with 3GB of ram, AMD dual-core processor, Nvidia grahpics card. It runs fine even with Aero enabled and a third-party 3D virtual desktop app running!
